CNN apparently threw caution to the wind(balance sheet-wise)

and paid Dobbs $8,000,000.00 to go away.

Haven’t watched CNN since 94. That is when I blocked their channels from my TV.

Socialist racist pandering propagana trash is all their presstitutes promote.

While advertisers have been willing to shell out more for CNN's venerable brand, broad audience reach and less-opinionated programming

Yup. Having kids on-air sing and dance praises to ObamaCare is purely factual reporting.

...a while back it was reported that Ted Turner wants back in at CNN...he’s disgusted by what he sees and thinks he can turn it around.

Can somebody refresh my memory? I recall CNN getting caught in a blatant lie. I think it had something to do with Vietnam. Does anybody else remember this?

I suspect CNN’s ratings/revenue will decline even further now that Lou is gone. The only time i’d watch CNN was to catch his show.Maybe they’re counting on a gov bailout?

While advertisers have been willing to shell out more for CNN's venerable brand, broad audience reach and less-opinionated programming, buyers said the network's ratings slide is likely to bring down pricing.

Uh....maybe their ratings are sliding because they're NOT a broad audienced network and NOT less-opinionated? DUH!
CNN is getting more like Error America every day.

Yeah, we hope so. I’d love to see CNN and PMSNBC go down the crapper.

Of course, they’ll live on in some form: just like the A&P grocery chain—once a juggernaut, now just a shell of their former selves.

CNN? “...less-opinionated...”????

Bwahahahahahaha!!!

The only idiots watching that forsaken network are the unfortunates trapped in airport terminals.

Yeah, but considering that the picture was taken in the early 197os that dawg is dead. Kinda like CNN, come to think.

How can the Post say that CNN has “middle of the road” programming?

Rupert must be trying to “make good” with them prior to the deep sixing they will get courtesy of Fox News.

In the world of television advertising, a big audience doesn't necessarily translate into the highest ad rates. Media buyers said CNN has the benefit of 30 years in the business and a trusted name that still resonates with advertisers.

I would say that advertisers that are willing to pay a premium in the absence of audience ought to have their own Dinosaur DeathWatch.....

Every so often I get forced into CNN, like the hospital, etc. I always end up yelling at the TV.

It’s like they recruit their anchors from the DNC. They sit there and make amazed faces on how anyone could have and conservative beliefs.

I remember once Bush gave a wonderful speech on freedom. They showed two sentences, and then proceeded to spend 10 minutes on how terrible they thought his policies were. I went over to Fox and they showed half the speech and had little commentary, and it was accurate and about the speech.

"All in all, they have tried to maintain their objectivity and be a force for objective journalism," said Steve Lanzano, executive vice president of MPG, a media-buying firm. "I think that's the reason why advertisers aren't shying away."

I think the reason advertisers aren't shying away is that almost everyone in advertising - including ad buyers - are well to the left of center and for them CNN is the norm. If advertising works and eyeballs are important then FOX is a bargain.

“Time Warner-owned CNN, while getting beaten handily in the ratings race and having fallen to fourth place in rankings, still commands higher ad rates than rivals — in some cases double those of Fox News and MSNBC.”

Sounds like grounds for stock holders to sue the boards and CEO’s of those who advertise their company products on CNN.

Why would any company pay double the costs for advertising at CNN, which has a much smaller audience size/rating than Fox?

The answer is simple. They are probably liberally controlled companies, and their CEO’s/boards are doing this to keep CNN afloat at the expense of their stock owners.
