CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as president (CNN pushes Romney, Huckster)

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Fewer than three in 10 Americans think Sarah Palin's qualified to be president, according to a new national poll - the least of any of the five potential candidates included in the survey.

But another woman tops that list in the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday: two-thirds of the public thinks that Secretary of State HIllary Clinton's qualified for the Oval Office. That's more than Vice President Joe Biden, who's currently next in line for the presidency.

According to the poll, 28 percent of Americans say Palin is qualified to run the White House, with seven in 10 saying the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is not qualified.

The survey indicates that a majority of Republicans, 54 percent, feel Palin is qualified, with 44 percent indicating she isn't. But only 29 percent of independent voters questioned feel she is qualified to serve as president, with 68 percent disagreeing. According to the poll, nine in 10 Democrats feel Palin is not qualified.

The poll's release comes one day before the release of Palin's book, "Going Rogue: An American Life."

The wrath of FReepers will fall upon you.

It is a very frightening prospect, made bearable only by this:

Leave Sarah Alone!!!

CNN isn’t qualified to deliver the news, and their ratings are showing it!

Whatever the polls say in 2012 I will be voting on principle. If Sarah continues to espouse conservative values and continues to be sincere about them....

Palin 2012

What’s the argument about?

Beats me. I guarantee Palin wouldn't bow to ANYONE much less another head of state like this stupid *ss has been doing. Nor would she trash the United States every chance she got!

How anyone can say with a straight face that Obama is qualified for ANYTHING is CRAZY! He is an embarrasement! Other countries must think we have lost our freaking minds!

No movement from the last time, if anything a small decline.

I'm sure that Sarah Palin shares many of my values. That does not make her qualified, however. And since you're spouting polls ... There's that unpleasant one showing that a large majority of likely voters think she's not qualified.

As far as "quitting" is concerned, why should she stay in a position that is personally bankrupting her?

She was elected governor, and she quit. Her stated reason for quitting as governor was essentially that people were picking on her. But if you say she quit because she could get more money elsewhere ... well, then, that's not the sort of person I want as president, either.

Now, I'm sure that nobody would pick on her if she was president..... but if they did, how do you think Sarah Palin would respond to it? I could point to past precedent. What can you point to?

How very ... Clintonian of you.

When it comes to looking at qualifications for executive office, I think past behavior in an executive position is the best guide.

And she quit. She quit.

The problem is that the MSM very effectively mock and criticize Sarah Palin on a practically non-stop basis and, whether we want to admit it or not, the majority of voters, especially the under-30 crowd, get their opinions from the MSM.

This plays right into the Democrat's hands. They realize that Sarah Palin is a formidable personality and they fear her - so they criticize and mock her while pushing phony polls that put her way behind other Republicans (Huckabee, Romney) that they know can't defeat Obama, thus effecting the desired result of persuading voters into believing that Palin isn't 'qualified' and "shouldn't be president". Then Republixcans start buying into the meme and the Democrats work is done. Come 2012, the GOP nominates some bland loser who supposedly appeals to 'moderates' and independents but leaves the electorate unimpressed, even with his alleged 'qualifications'. Obama had almost zero qualifications and it didn't stop him.

Sarah Palin has a successful governorship on her resume which is far more impressive than Obama's state legislature stint (voting 'present') and very brief, unproductive time as a U.S. Senator. Like Obama, Palin has charisma and people tend to notice her. Palin's conservative ideology and 'walk-the-walk' lifestyle, her All-American back story and her energy combine to make her far more likely to demolish an Obama attempt at re-election than some bland Republican 'moderate' that the public has already rejected.

Palin may not be the GOP's 'savior'. She may not even chose to run for the presidential nomination in 2012. However, I hope she does. Despite these phony polls that conveniently show has-been Republican politicians as more desirable candidates than Sarah Palin, I believe the MSM is simply doing what they always do - the Democrats dirty work; attempting to destroy Sarah Palin's image with prospective voters so that by 2012, she either will be marginalized or simply opt out of running for the GOP nomination. Too bad that some Republicans will think this is a good thing while they back another 'moderate' loser. When will the GOP ever learn?

Unto every Sarah Palin thread must come the bashers. I don’t know why. But they feel they must comment and then bash supporters.

Hey, Hoodlum, why not just ignore this thread?

And that in a nutshell is her problem. Can it be overcome? Sure, but it will be difficult.

When I look at a poll I look at where independents are aligned - and at 29% they are aligned almost identically with the electorate at large (28%). She has a big problem.

"so they criticize and mock her while pushing phony polls that put her way behind other Republicans (Huckabee, Romney) that they know can't defeat Obama"

While not disagreeing with much of what you said, I'm not sure that the "polls are phony". Leaving the CNN poll aside, I've seen several Rasmussen polls the last several months that reflect an unease with Palin, not just amongst the general electorate, but within Republican ranks as well. Last month, Rasmussen - whom I'd describe as an accurate polling group - released a poll that placed Palin a distant third to Huckster and Romney.

It's equally clear that the wider perception of Palin amongst Republicans and conservatives is that she reflects their general principles, it's not clear why Palin isn't enjoying commensurate support when measured against other possible Republican Presidential aspirants. Perhaps there's some unease amongst Republicans about Palin's ability to win, perhaps it's something else altogether. Palin has an opportunity in this press tour to stop the bleeding and perhaps even change some minds. We will see how she fairs.

To be fair, when was the last time we had a president with only 2-1/2 years of major elective office under their belt? But that’s not even her problem. Her problem is that is all she will ever have if she runs for president. Her problem is a thing called conventional wisdom. Conventional wisdom was even against Obama, but he was pushed over the top in a tidal year.

I’ll make it simple. She could win. But only in a tidal year. Probably have to be extraordinary (given these numbers).

"Palin is our Thatcher"

Palin is a lot of things, but Margaret Thatcher isn't one of them.

Thatcher was a world-class intellectual, one of the brightest and most articulate politicians in the last 70 years. She was an accomplished academic, legislator, author (no ghost writers for Thatcher) and statesmen well before she became Prime Minister. Most importantly, Thatcher didn't ever evoke the populist rhetoric that Palin seems to embrace. Thatcher was an elite amongst elites, of that, their can be no doubt.

Aside from both presumably standing for smaller, less intrusive governments and a strong military and foreign policy, there's not much else that's similar between the two women.
