WASHINGTON – The nation's top Forest Service official says national forests can store more carbon to slow global warming, but he warns that such a goal must be balanced against the risk of catastrophic wildfires.

Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell told a Senate panel on Wednesday that his agency is trying to manage forests to combat climate change while still easing the risk of wildfires.

Somehow the solution arrived at by the Forest Service seems oddly self-serving.

Nothing human can slow it down or speed it up.

“Cat Lover’s of America say more cats can slow climate change.”

“Juglers United say more juggling can slow climate change.”

...and BTW I thought the idea was to reverse it to go back to where it was, but where was it we’re supposed to go back to 1980, 1700, 200 BC, 1M years ago????

What a load.

They do require CO2 in the atmosphere to breath.

“The Forest Service is trying to thin out young trees and underbrush to control wildfires that are increasing in frequency and intensity in part because of global warming.””

Yet the forest service employees contribute to the enviro ‘non profits’ to stop that very thing...thinning.

They might try ‘thinning’ out the illegal alien Mexican Drug cartels from burning down our forests...just one of them, 88,000 acres lost in the La Brea fire in California a few months ago. And yes, it was proven it was started by Mexicans. It isn’t the first and it won’t be the last.

Only if the trees are registered Democrats. Otherwise, they are carniverous polluters who hate and start tree wars amongst themselves.

Once you take the moisture out of a tree, the are about 97% CARBOhydrate by weight.

Any fool who passed biology knows that ALL green plants are natural carbon sinks.

BUT!!!!!

When the trees DIE, the NATURAL decomposition process puts CARBON MONOXIDE, METHANE, WATER VAPOR and CARBON DIOXIDE into the atmosphere — ALL of which are powerful greenhouse gases ...

OMG, there is a CARBON cycle in nature!!!! Who knew????

Strange world or what?

All the money used to be in cocaine and heroin, now it’s in weed. It’s being exported to other countries .. or so I hear.

Add in cartels and we see why venturing in the forest these days can be very dangerous ..

What a coincidence.

Climate can also slow tree change.

Whod’a thought?

Old trees don't take in and sequester much CO2 compared to young trees and underbrush type plants. They are thinning out the wrong kind of trees and plants if the aim is to take more CO2 out of the air.
