“Delta Smelt, What’s that (Dead) Flower You Have On…”

“Delta Smelt, What’s that (Dead) Flower You Have On…” By justinwashingtontheblogger “Could it be a Faded Rose from Days Gone By?”

Lyrics (Polluted) by Justin Washington and Tribute to Tanya Tucker

As the plaintiff song wafts in the air, so goes California’s golden dream — because of a small, silver fish resembling a minow with small, beady eyes (somewhat similiar in appearance to US Senate Leader Harry Reid).

The EPA, as the teeth behind the Endangered Species Act, has turned off the water spigot to the agricultural Central Valley of California which has been likened to the “bread basket of the US.” The EPA is the Environmental Protection Agency, the brain(drain) child of the former, disgraced and oft-reviled Republican President Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon from California. It’s no doubt ironic that the Left’s poster-child of “right-wing” intolerance Richard Nixon created the very department that has since turned into a carbuncle of political correctness — with the mantra that “the world would be perfect if we could just get rid of those pesky humans.” (Just envision those pimply-faced adolescent Green Peace zombie volunteers hanging outside the local grocery store asking for signatures to outlaw human activity in favor of some local lizard’s ability to poop freely in the environment.)

The formerly lush Central Valley along Interstate 5 which runs up the spine of California now lies in ruin — acre after acre and endless fields of lifeless plants and orchards. (By the way, is the Sierra Club aware that the EPA is responsible for killing trees?) Because of beady-eyes politicians and their throngs of delta smelt warriors, the water has been literally turned off with no end in sight, leaving entire towns and communities destitute and jobless — 40% in some Central Valley towns such as Mendota. Now, apparently the generations of Joads and their fellow Okie ancestors and friends who fled to California in the 1930’s from the Dustbowl in Oklahoma to work agricultural jobs in the once-lush California Central Valley can go pack up their pick-ups and make the return trip to Oklahoma (which is now no doubt greener than California) — sort of a reverse “Grapes of Wrath” reworked and renamed “Smelts of Wrath.”

I keep wondering why the farmers of the Central Valley don’t just defy the feds and re-open those pumps. I honestly don’t think that the local Sheriffs would stop them, if they did.

They need to go rogue.

My Neighbor and I were talking on the porch today, he pointed out that it is called the endangered species act and not the extinct species act.

His prediction, someone in the central valley is going to snap and dump a nuke in that delta to ensure that delta minnow is extinct, at that point they will turn the pumps back on.

Of course it was a joke, but tonight thinking it could happen, desperate people do desperate things.

Glad we don’t live in the valley, these people got it bad right now.

The same type of garbage was pulled in Oregon a few years back, plus a number of other states and was nothing more that political fraud either resulting in no change or was not the progenitor of the problem. Have we not learned about these charlatans and their junk science?

Hey...the Central Valley farmers all need to watch the “Milagro Bean Field War” about a guy in NM who refused to let the water be turned off so he could have a bean farm...and he won.

There should be a special showing of this movie in all the CV theaters this month.

And these guys in the movie were of course Hispanic, being from NM (Mondragon was their name) and persecuted by the big bad man. St Jude, the Saint of the Impossible was a central figure too.
.

That is an excellent suggestion.

But, one has to ask -- if you need to show these farmers a movie to inspire them save their own fortunes and livelihoods, do they even have what it takes to fight back?

The EPA isn’t responsible for the ESA for freshwater fish. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is. The EPA does water quality. NOAA fisheries does ESA for oceanic fish.

I keep wondering if these once great farms will be bought up by some rich folks with money who can get the water turned back on after they have bought out the farmers they have ruined.

Follow the money.

Having said that, this is insane, kill the damned fish and be done with it .Get these people some water.
