Stop the Hysteria: The Vote on Health Care Bill Is Long From Being Over
November 21 2009 | jeveritas

Posted on 11/21/2009 7:26:17 PM PST by jveritas

Today healthcare vote in the Senate was so badly represented by many on our side and of course by the media and was blown way out of proportion. In reality it is a meaningless vote. The vote today was only to start the debate and it is absolutely does not guarantee at all that the current bill in the Senate with it current version of public option aka socialized medicine is going to pass. In fact as it stands now this current bill is assured to be defeated because the socialists are not going to get 60 votes for cloture to end the debate and hence they cannot move the bill for a final vote. In other words the bill in its current form is dead.

Senator Lieberman has said so many times, very clearly, and very adamantly that he is going to filibuster an end for the debate as long as it has any form of public option and he also said many times that he was going to vote to allow the start of the debate as he did today. That is why Senator Lieberman has been for weeks the most hated person among the left wing lunatics. Many people misunderstood and misinterpreted what he has been saying and thought that Lieberman did not follow through on what he said he was going to do.

Senator Olympia Snowe has said that she is going to filibuster an end to the debate on this current healthcare bill if it contains the current form of public option. She wants a trigger public option which in practical political terms a meaningless thing that will never be triggered. In fact today she even voted against the start of the debate.

Now some will say that if the socialists do not get 60 votes to end the debate and move the bill for a final vote then they are going to use reconciliation or the so called “nuclear option”. This is very unlikely because for the use of reconciliation the bill has to go back to the budget committee or finance committee where it is going to be watered down significantly and just includes the insignificant trigger public option or a trigger co-op. Even very left wing Senators like Tom Harkin said that reconciliation will be a very bad thing to do.

What is the most likely scenario?

Most probably they are going to be able to pass a healthcare bill that contains a trigger public option or a trigger co-op which in all practical form is a meaningless gesture because it is not going to be triggered at all in the future. This is the bill that will go to Obama to sign it into law, the democrat politicians and their media will celebrate but their left wing lunatic base will go insane in a way that will shock many. The left wing lunatic base wants a strong public option (aka socialized medicine) as a minimum and is very much against a trigger public option or a trigger co-op because they know very well that the trigger means absolutely nothing and when this happens the left wing lunatic base is going to explode in total anger against the democrat party.

I agree. This is going to pass in one form or another. All the rats have to do is lay the foundation with this bill, we’ve seen how that works with every big government bill that’s passed since Wilson. Once the groundwork is laid, there’s no stopping the expansion, through a “tweak” here and a new-found “right” there.

If the Republican wins the Senate seat in the most liberal state...

They won Governor at least once. Why not a Senate seat?

Actually, the amnesty bills of 2006 and 2007 were brought to the floor and defeated because they could not get 60 votes, with Reid presiding both times.

Very good post. There are many destructive things in this bill that need to be stopped and not just the public option.

One out of how many? And I mentioned “ under the current regime” which would include our gutless president, making it a grand slam for the Dems. IMHO

I'm wondering if this isn't actually a time for a (very quiet) celebration for Conservatives. We have a senate vote SOLID DEMOCRAT for this, SOLID REPUBLICAN against it (who the hell knows what Lieberman thinks or who Voinovich was "out with" tonight). But the Dems are now FULLY EXPOSED as united behind Obama and Socialism. People don't want this health care bill, they want jobs and no more added to the deficit. This bill, as it is debated, will show the DEMS voted against BOTH of these things the American People want.

Celebration? (yes, but quietly!) ... this is exactly what we needed to expose the Democrats for what and who they are. Landreiu's base (catholic) is going to go nuts that she supported a bill with abortion in it. People are going to finally look at the YEA votes and see Leiberman in that column and recall that Harry Reid threatened him with losing his committee chairmanship if he didn't vote for this. The corruption is there for people to see and the "internals" of this bill are horrible and will be exposed.

Tomorrow, there will be more "independents" than there were today ... and the "self-destruction" these DEMS are doing is breathtaking to watch. There was a time I thought we might have a "chance" in 2010. Now I'm thinking landslide?

The bastards got their 60 vote party line vote. Now, Reid will strip the original contents and insert the "health care" bill contents in place of the original bill. It will only need 51 votes to pass. A few of the Dems who voted yes for the 60 vote cloture can now hide with a "no" vote on the "real" bill so their re-election hopes aren't compromised.

I'm not confident that Lieberman or Snowe won't fall for some inevitable trigger.

Snowe has already said she's in favor of the trigger.

To me, the trigger is the biggest danger. Because no genuine reform will happen, health costs won't fall. Thus, the trigger (public option) will be put in place.

The left doesn't like the trigger because it doesn't provide a public option immediately, but independents will likely be fooled if it passes. Independents will think that Obama has succeeded in getting health reform passed and his favorables will likely go up. And the worst news of all it that in a few years we may very well get socialized medicine triggered.

Insurance companies are BIG employers in CT. Good jobs that pay well and are needed badly in this economy. Aetna is huge and I doubt Joe will cross them.

I think Maine also has some insurers. Cigna is not HQ in ME (they are in PA) but they have operations in Maine. I am suprised Cigna did not muscle the PA scum senators. Big Blue Cross operation in Maine.

If you are betting against passage, I'll take that bet. There has been so much discussion about having something like Canadian health care passed. By the time these clowns get done and every special interest group has purchased the portion important to them, we will end up with a pile of crap that will make the Canadian system look good.

“Stop the Hysteria”

I’ve been hysterical ever since this government controlled health care was introduced. It is a hallmark of the left. It has to be battled at every turn.

Think of all the doctors and insurance companies that hate this and their workers better hate it too.

If you work for Aetna and this is put in place - you are out of a job in Conn. I do not think Joe Liberman wants angry insurance companies in CT. Aetna’s revenues are $31 billion with $1.4 billion in net income.

Doctors and nurses who do not think the Democrats are trying to rape them better wake up. They also better get their check book$ out in 2010 and get mobilized.

One out of how many?

Actually, amnesty was defeated twice, in 2006 and 2007. I can't think of any major bills the Dims managed to pass since taking control in 2006, until this year.

And, they've passed Obama's stimulus and that omnibus bill. But that was more or less unplanned, emergency stuff in response to the financial crisis that broke October of 2008 that was helped by the feeling that they had to do more to help the economy (though only leftist thought it would help).

They've only really now begun to take up Obama's major policy initiatives: Obamacare, Cap and Trade, and another amnesty try. I don't think they've brought up enough major legislation to say that it always get it passed. This is where that will be decided. And Cap and Trade might be falling apart on them.

I’m more optimistic than most here. There are too many moderates on the Dem side: Bayh, Dorgan, Warner, Webb, Pryor, Nelson, Lincoln, McCaskill—most from conservative states. Even Feinstein, a liberal, has expressed reservations about putting new mandates on her state which is already drowning in red ink. And Ben Nelson of Nebraska insists on a pro-life amendment. And although Bill Nelson of Florida has said some positive things about the bill, he publicly expressed worry about the Medicare cuts. He should—it hits seniors hard—and they’re letting him know about it. So this is not a done deal by any means.

Remember the Doc Fix bill Reid tried to pass? A half dozen dems joined the Republicans to knock it down. That could have been a precursor. Remember, if the GOP holds steady, all we need is ONE vote. My guess is we’ll have more—more like five or six.

The “Recall Landrieu” option seems to be a good one to begin with. Apparently Louisiana is one of 18 states that you can recall a senator in. I would immediately start organizing one if I lived in LA, and for those not in LA, start emailing that you will be sending funds to those in LA to begin the recall effort as well as for a conservative replacement for her seat.

Did you read the original post? There is still 60 votes required to end the debate and the socialists do not have the 60 votes as long as the bill contain the current version of the public option.
