Is it a "Warmist Conspiracy," or a case of an e-mail being "taken completely out of context"?
Regardless, the latest dust-up over the science of climate change appears unlikely to affect the dynamics of either a pending debate in the Senate or international climate negotiations in Copenhagen next month.
Conservative bloggers have seized on a series of e-mails between leading climate scientists, which were obtained by computer hackers and posted online last week, as evidence of a scientific conspiracy to push claims about human-caused global warming.
But advocates of action to curb global warming dismiss those claims, and political leaders and analysts say the Senate bill to limit greenhouse gas emissions will sink or swim based on economics, not science.
"The scientists are going to fight about this for decades," said Robert Dillon, a spokesman for Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, one of several Senate Republicans who say they are open to some form of a climate bill. "We should be doing something to curb our emissions that would not harm the economy, and could in fact boost the economy," he said.
The British institution at the center of the debate confirmed Saturday that its server had been hacked and that it had contacted the police to pursue an investigation of what it believes was a criminal act.

fyi
Whenever “the hive” gets caught red-handed, they suddenly discover how to turn it into a “there’s two sides to every story” story.
No surprises here that glowbull warming is a nefarious effort to tax and enslave. I can easily imagine something similar going on with internal democrat party e-mails, they just havn't been hacked.
It’s not really a “scientific conspiracy”. It is a leftist conspiracy where many of the bad actors happen to be scientists.
100% of the buzz is about the *emails and text documents* in the zipfile.
That’s to be expected in the first few days after it surfaces.
But 90% of the content of the zipfile is *data* (and code for analyzing and displaying it).
Whoever released this stuff knew what they were doing. They didn’t include all this data in the zipfile for no reason.
I can’t wait until someone with the skills and insight to make use of it digs into that data and tells us about it.
Plus, it’s going to be tougher from here on out for scientific journals to shut out scientists who are skeptical of AGW. So I think there is a greater chance that what comes to light will be promulgated.
The true fruits of the leaker’s labor have yet to see the light of day, IMO.

“The other says it’s being taken out of context.”
easy enough to deal with. supply all the rest of the emails to show context...feel free to enter into OPEN DEBATE regarding what ALL the emails say.
you could demonstrate the context tomorrow...after all, you’ve had all that info for quite some time..........
I saw a note somewhere where Stephen McIntyre was quoted as making a comment about a mole....
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Andrew Breitbart method of hanging you with your own defense was at play here?
Even though the data was fudged (deep dark chocolate fudged)...it’s still ok.
Weeks before Copenhagen, no Senate bill

Though Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Senate would pass a climate change bill before the start of the international climate talks in Copenhagen, it's clear that's not going to happen.

Shortly after Democrats took office last January, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) vowed the Senate would pass climate change legislation before the start of the international climate talks in Copenhagen.
But less than a month before the eyes of the world turn to Denmark, its clear that theres no chance a bill will get through the Senate by then a domestic policy failure that leaves the U.S. with a weakened hand as it seeks to negotiate a global warming treaty with the rest of the world.
At a climate meeting with world leaders in Singapore over the weekend, President Barack Obama expressed support for drafting a limited, short-term political agreement at Copenhagen instead of a legally binding treaty.
It was unrealistic to expect a full, legally binding international agreement to be reached between now and when Copenhagen starts in 22 days, said Michael Froman, deputy national security adviser for economic affairs.
Top administration officials say that U.S. negotiators are unable to commit to any hard and fast agreements without having a bill through the Senate. And if the U.S. delegation did make any strong commitments on climate change, that could further jeopardize the chances of the Senate passing the legislation early next year.
Its pretty clear that if they agreed to lots of things or made a big deal, that the backlash in the Senate would be astounding, said William Moomaw, a professor of international environmental policy at Tufts University.

The first sentence pretty much says it all.......
ROFLMAO!
Climate Assessment Oligarchy The IPCC ( weakened by disclosure at the CRU?
Lol. I could make him explode - but it would take more time!
>> I saw a note somewhere where Stephen McIntyre was quoted as making a comment about a mole....
Personal opinion: I think it’s far more likely that it’s an insider leak rather than a hack.
It’s tough to be a research scientist and contribute to, or condone, continued fraud. (Not that it never happens because obviously it IS happening.) Lots of cognitive dissonance.
But I bet there are a number of tortured souls on these global warming teams — maybe a grad student or two? — that are really stressed by “looking the other way” for money.
.
LOL!
An inconvenient gasbag!
>> Even though the data was fudged
Where I come from, we refer to this as “data obtained by the anus extracticus technique”.
