November 23, 2009 Lou Dobbs Considers Possible Presidential Run
Lou Dobbs, who resigned from CNN in November after nearly three decades with the network, suggested in a radio interview Monday that he's eyeing a future in politics.
Former populist CNN anchor Lou Dobbs said Monday he isn't ruling out a presidential run.
Dobbs, who resigned from CNN in November after nearly three decades with the network, suggested in a radio interview with WTOP in Washington, D.C., that he's eyeing a future in politics.
"What's so crazy about that?" Dobbs quipped when asked about a possible presidential run. "It's one of the discussions that we're having."
"For the first time, I'm actually listening to some people about, about politics," he said. "We've got to do something in this country."
Support for Dobbs as a presidential contender took form on the Internet well before the veteran newsman announced his departure from CNN, where he worked as anchor and managing editor of "Lou Dobb's Tonight."
The Web site, "loudobbsforpresident.org," launched in January 2009 to rally support for a possible 2012 presidential run.
"Lou Dobbs would make a good president because he is truly a man of the people," the Web site's founder, William Gheen, told FoxNews.com Monday.
Gheen, who also heads Americans for Legal Immigration, said Dobbs "has been more in line with the American public on issues like global trade, homeland security and illegal immigration than either of the Democrats or Republicans we have been offered in the last nine years."

He has no experience.
But if Zerobama could get elected, then why not Lou?
Lou was a good news guy......but I wouldn’t vote for the guy.
Good. He’s a man of his word as witnessed by his stint at CNN when he went against his employer on the continnum. He could’ve caved and kept his job but he stood by his principles. He’s an honest broker and tells it like he sees it. I’d certainly vote for him.
How about treasury sec in a Palin administration?
Lou Dobbs? Now I have to go and research this guy?
I already voted for Newt and Sarah for 2012. I’m not going to vote again.....or am I?
Why on earth would you vote for Newt?
Big mistake. Start with something more reasonable, Lou.
“Big mistake. Start with something more reasonable, Lou.”
Yep, something more reasonable, like Governor of a border state.
He is a leader. He is hawkish on national security. He is for drilling for our own oil. He is for soveriegnty and smaller government. He cuts taxes and is against government healthcare. He is no fan of the UN and has been an advocate of “fixing” social security. He is for 100% control of the southern boarder and prosecution and/or deportation of all illegals (he did have a pause as I recall early) but did speak out against Bush’s plan.
Points agains newt....He let Clinton raise taxes and he waivered on Bush’s bailout plan.
I see some political opportunism. It’s early and I speak in jest. But he and SP are my going votes for now.
Why not?
The problem is, Dobbs wouldn’t be running as a Republican. And a third-party candidate with his stature and visability would be a disaster. Especially if Huckabee (the John McCain of 2012) is our nominee.
3rd party time for Dobbs?
Lou is delusional. That being said, he’d do a better job than Obama. But then, so would my mama. Hey—that rhymes!
Too many candidates may be worse than too few.
They have to make sure a 3rd party takes Republican votes to get Obama re-elected. 3rd Party=Disaster.
How about a DOBBS/TANCREDO TICKET
OR MAYBE A DOBBS/BUCHANAN TICKET
(oh, and I’m getting a pony for Christmas)
I’ll do some more research?
It all depends upon the GOP nominee. If it is Romney or McCain (again) Lou could do well.
I think Lou needs to turn his attention back to a senatorial run in New Jersey. We don’t need any third party presidential runs by conservatives, and we don’t need multiple conservative candidates in the Republican primaries splitting the votes to the benefit of Tim Pawlenty.
