CARACAS (Reuters) - Russia is building arms plants in Venezuela to produce AK-103 automatic rifles and cartridges and is finalizing contracts to send 53 military helicopters to the Andean nation, Moscow's envoy to Venezuela saidMonday. Ambassador Vladmir Zaemskiy told a news conference that Russian engineers and Venezuelan construction firms were building the rifle and cartridge plants which, when operational, would employ more than 1,500 workers. He gave no completion date for the plants under construction in the central state of Aragua. Details about Moscow's military shipments and projects have been scarce since socialist President Hugo Chavez's government began signing military agreements with Russia back in 2001. In recent years, Venezuela has bought over $4 billion in weapons from Russia, including 24 Sukhoi fighter jets. Critics say Caracas is fueling an arms race in Latin America. Chavez says he is modernizing the military for defensive purposes. When Chavez he returned from his latest trip to Russia in September, he said Russia had agreed to lend Venezuela $2.2 billion to purchase 92 tanks and an S-300 missile system that can shoot down fighter jets and cruise missiles.

Saaaaaaayyy ... I think I know where some of the TARP money went ...
‘Rat filth in power ==> Monroe doctrine dormant
AK103? I’d like to add that to my collection.
Yeah but I’m not sure how the Monroe Doctrine can be twisted to mean that sovereign nations in this hemisphere can’t buy weapons from countries other than us. No matter how much we dislike the buyer and the seller.
It’s over TWICE as good as the 47.
USA foreign policy has clearly fallen on hard times. Some of us old folks simply remember a nation that kept its’ word. The Monroe Doctrine wasn’t perfect. Now it is forgotten. Pee in the wind.
My hound dog is sorry when it rains. Chavez is the legacy of our cowardice. No credits required.
While Il Douche may have heard of Marilyn Monroe, I doubt he’s heard of James.
Besides, that Monroe was one of those nasty old, slavery tolerating Founders [sarc./off], so Obozo will NEVER acknowledge, nor implement, the Doctrine that bears his name; especially since one of the malfactors is that lovable progressive, Huge-O Chavez.
Green jobs, I guess.
How is Venezuela an Andean nation?
Chilie or Peru, I could understand but Venezuela?
For further information on South American geography or job opportunites, please email or call Mr.Chavez in Venezuela. Some radio DJ did spoof Chavez a while back pretending to be Pres. Bush or Clinton or Hillary, ETC. What’s with Cuba doing Florida invasion training? Is that news or not?

The northern end of the Andes mountains do extend into Venezuela, although they are not as high as in Peru. I have been there and seen them.
