Creatures in nature are not tame. If tourists don’t realize that, they shouldn’t go looking to see reality.
An old male house cat will kill kittens all day long. Nothing new here.
Is this you?
As the group topped a rise they spotted a clan of bears about 200 yds away that likewise spotted them and started to move in their direction.
The guide immediately sat down and started to unlace his boots. The tourists, now getting anxious, looked backed to the bears only to see them closing the distance at an increasing pace.
The Alaskan guide reached into his pack, pulled out a pair of running shoes and pulled them on.
One hysterical eco-freak screamed "What are you doing? You can't outrun them."
To which the guide replied "I don't have to outrun them, I just have to outrun you".
“Male polar bears, in common with most non-pack male carnivores, eat babies of their own species whenever they get the chance.
One of the theories is that a female who loses her cubs may be ready to mate sooner.”
This is also true of lions.
Mama Bear’s main job is to protect the youngins from male bears. It’s got nothing to do with Global Warming, Climate Change, Asteroid Collisions, or whatever disaster is waiting to befall the ignorant masses.

precisely...
I even learned of this on some nature documentary...
probably on the “Nature” series on PBS!
Absolutely right. Pretty much all predators (well, except for us - maybe) do it. They will kill (and sometimes eat) the offspring of vanquished rivals because when the whelps stop nursing, the dams will stop lactating and start ovulating again, allowing either the new dominant male (or an established male which has simply killed his own offspring) to breed and reproduce his genes. The drive to propagate is so strong that the females generally accept the death of the old to ensure the survival of the new. "Pack" or "pride" animals will still do it. They just do it outside the bounds of their own "family unit".
I used to tell my kids this to illustrate "there are no step-kids in nature".
While it's not "cannibalistic", there are some indications that the instinct to preserve one's own "bloodline" at the expense of others is a contributing factor in the rising incidence of human step-child abuse. As there are more and more broken homes in our society, the potential increases. It could simply be - more step-kids - more potential for violent abuse.
Or maybe it's the product of an increasingly violent society. But, could it be an instinctive pressure for males to pass on their own genes being impeded by the presence of step-children? Is there an inherent aversion to having one's offspring "share" the attentions of a mother a factor that causes some men to abuse or even kill their step-children?
I propose that Michael Moore and AlGore go and investigate this phenomenon personally.
No, I have a scar above my left eye.
Beef liver isn’t. It tastes awful, but it won’t kill you. Polar Bear and seal liver will kill you.
Huh?
Male bears have been eating bear cubs for as long as there have been male bears and cubs.
Male bears have NO part in rearing the cubs. Once they impregnate the female, they’re off to do male bear things.
That’s one of the reasons that female bears are so protective of their cubs.
“Global warming” or “climate change” has nothing to do with it.

How often do we hear about dad killing a baby vs mom's boyfriend killing a baby?
It's all nasty.
Forequarters, hidquarters, backstrap and done.
Gut soup I'll leave to the coyotes or the menudo crowd.
Maybe someone should explain to this batch of canadians that other sorts of bears do that in places that are not cold.
“hidquarters” = hindquarters.
Get it right spunky.
Something not to do...

How often do men have abortions?
