Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned that al-Qaida followers are inside the U.S. and pose the threat of terrorist attacks on Americans.
“The fact is that home-based terrorism is here,” she said in an address to the American-Israel Friendship League in New York on Wednesday night.
“And like extremism abroad, it is now part of the threat picture that we must confront."
“Individuals sympathetic to al-Qaida and its affiliates, as well as those inspired by their ideology, are present in the U.S., and would like to attack the homeland or plot overseas attacks against our interests abroad.”
Napolitano said a series of recent arrests in the U.S. should “remove any remaining comfort that some might have had from the notion that if we fight the terrorists abroad, we won’t have to fight them here.”
That was seen as a rebuttal to the “notion” expressed by George Bush while in the White House, The Washington Post observed.
Napolitano’s remarks came after President Obama said in his Tuesday night speech that extremists have been “sent here from the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan to commit more acts of terror.”

Obama took a tougher stance in Afghanistan than many of us thought he would and now this... Look for a few other things to come out to ‘toughen’ up his image.

He’s trying to triangulate earlier than even Bill Clinton did, in my opinion. We can’t ignore his political acumen. He understands he needs to pull away from the left a little bit now.
Watch for him to co-opt Republicans on a few issues and then hijack those issues and take credit for it. Remember Bill Clinton and welfare reform? Who is Obama’s Dick Morris?

Never understood the idiots about the war on terror. We’ve always known they were here and did very little to smoke them out of hiding or to prevent their entry.
Terrorists striking on our soil? Close the borders, more coast guard out to sea and port authority. Not to mention a little racial profiling at the airports. Then invade every muslim neighborhood and mosque. Give them nowhere to hide.
Then we will have better info about where they are from and who sent them. Then go kick some muzzie butt.

I just met someone whose husband was working building the border fence and has been laid off because El Napo stopped work on the fence.
