No pay raise for military retirees

Posted on 12/04/2009 1:34:56 PM PST by Roklok

Well folks, I just checked my military retiree pay statement, and there will be no raise this coming year. This is the first time in 25 years that military retirees have received no increase in their retiree pay. Somehow I knew that this would happen with Obama in the white house.

Social Security recipients didn’t get a COLA either. It isn’t just about military pay.

Did Obama veto a bill with a raise in it? If not, I don’t see how he is responisble for an act delegated to Congress.

At least you got a check. I appreciate your service, but it must be nice to have a sure thing in the bag.

They said it was because the first time in however many years there was no inflation. Then I wish they would tell me why EVERYTHING costs more money?

A sure thing? There is nothing sure when it comes to the government.

This annual adjustment is driven by the Cost of Living Index, defined by the Congress. I wouldn’t vote to elect BHO municipal dog catcher, but let us not over-reach.

I suspect that whatever items are used to calculate COLA’s have not gone up but whatever they are, they must not really be accurate as my expenses have gone up a lot.

Just wait until they start cutting your military retirement check.

That is coming...

"Social Security recipients didn’t get a COLA either. It isn’t just about military pay."

How about welfare and food stamps...did they get increases?

I think so, especially if you count all dem "stim-lus chex"...which is why the veterans and retirees are stuck in place.

If we really want to see obama's numbers drop, then a military volunteer boycott would make him kick in the draft...then there will be lots of pissed off folks.

Social Security received no COLA and apparently neither did the military retirees. I haven’t gotten a COLA from my private employer pension plan since I retired in 1997. There will be none in the future unless the corporation’s board of directors decides otherwise. I don’t expect them to do so during my lifetime.

My wife gets a monthly pension from a state teachers retirement plan. She has gotten a COLA every year since her retirement in 1997 until now. There will be none in 2010. The rest of the bad news about her pension is the the teacher’s retirement fund is underfunded drastically.

I too thank you for your service to our country, but I am afraid that you will have to take a number if you are expecting any sympathy from us.

Now I am angry as hell that congress got their annual raise as did their staffs I would assume. Some people are just more equal than others.

SS got no increase either. Money has to be appropriated from someone or somewhere in order to be given to the recipients..

Military retirees earned the “sure thing” and much, much more.

Be glad that they didn’t cut it. There is some evidence of deflation out there, so we could easily have lost 1%.

In any case, enjoy it while it still comes...

“There is nothing sure when it comes to the government.” Taxes and more taxes. Then you die. As one writer
said “everything cost more” Well at least it’s not like carter’s presidency, pay raises were capped at 5% each year and inflation was more than 15% per year. That was the poorest 4 years in my 24 year career. I too want to thank all our veterans for their Service, and have a very Merry Christmas.

Life goes on.

Carter was my first term of Enlistment. If I remember correctly inflation was double digits and for two years we got no raise, then we got a raise and Carter and his ilk were bragging about how generous they were to us but they raised the taxes so much I actually had less in my paycheck than before the raise!
