EDITORIAL: The enemy at West Point
The Washington Times ^ | 12-04-09 | The Washington Times Editorial Staff

Insults against West Point by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews are part of a pattern of left-wing denigrations against Americans serving in uniform. It's a motif indicative of an anti-military mind-set that is as dangerous as it is rude.

Discussing the West Point audience's response to President Obama's speech about Afghanistan, Mr. Matthews quipped on Tuesday: "I saw a lot of, if not resentment, skepticism. I didn't see a lot of warmth in that crowd out there that the president chose to address tonight. And I thought that was interesting: He went to maybe the enemy camp tonight to make his case. I mean that was where Paul Wolfowitz used to write speeches back in the old Bush days. That's where he went to rabble-rouse the 'we're going to democratize the world' campaign back in '02. So I think it was a strange venue."

I did not attend the USMA...

I went to Great Lakes, Illinois...

United States Naval Recruit Depot...

or words to that effect, it was ‘85, so...

but I too learned the value of three little words...

Honor, Duty, Country

everyone hears it, but who listens??

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The simple truth is...
your character is defined by what you do when nobody is watching!!
...he should be shook to his core
I think you're being way too kind to zero. He may have been shaken, but in my opinion that just means a half step backward in preparation for 2 steps forward in distroying democracy in this country.
I’m glad this editorial was in the Washington Times where it will get some coverage. As a Dad of a combat soldier who has fought 2 1/2 years in Iraq (CIB and many other recognitions), one deployment in the heart of the elections N. of Baghdad (Baqubah, one of the hottest spots) and to hear our cowardly congress call them such vile things I could easily resort to [ insert appropriate comments here ] if I cross trails with these pathetic fat a** politicians.
Someday, somehow, these congress scum must feel our anger, they must, it is what we owe our loyal servicemen and women. They have been disenfranchised, slandered, insulted and belittled and worst of all BETRAYED, we must take their cause up as they fight for this UNGRATEFUL country in ugly, violent places.
Liberals are held to a different standard by the MSM. So Matthews will NOT get the Don Imus treatement.
His bosses at MSNBC don’t see anything wrong with Matthews’ comments. They may be concerned about controversy being generated, but do not find the comments themselves objectionable.
“that gray field shook Obama”
Powerful words and I wish I could believe you’re right.
But I’m afraid that that sight of the Long Grey Line has only enraged Obama. And he can empower his rage without the slightest need to display any physical or moral courage. As commander in chief he can demand the resignation of any in the chain of command who disagree with his agenda in Afghanistan or anywhere else. He can send federal agents after his critics with his only fear being the 2010 or 2012 elections and it looks like he doesn’t care what happens to House or Senate Democrats in 2010.
Please tell me I’m wrong.
Wow, post #6. My dad graduated from West Point in 1936. When he passed away in ‘80, they put together an obituary chronicling his service and sent us copies. I learned more about my dad then, than I had throughout our time together (seven kids, everyone on the ‘economy’ plan).
My impression of Obama’s speech was like something out of Star Trek- where star fleet officers are asked to attend a speaking engagement by an alien of a not-so-offensive appearance. Judge him by his words. A body language expert would have a field-day with this speech.
The best thing to remember is that any one of these cadets could take Matthews down to the ground in a heartbeat.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
You ain’t sayin’ much at that! I am 65 and I could probably slap Chris Matthews to the ground with one good backhand.
On Top Is Old Tokey
On Top Is Old Tokey
A known user of snow
And we’ve lost our republic
Cause the voters are slow
A votin’s a pleasure
Oft endin’ in grief
Cause a false hearted potus
Is worse than a thief
For a thief will just rob you
And take what you’ve saved
But a false hearted potus
Will make you a slave
Slavery will destroy you
And you will go bust
There ain’t a Muslim in twenty
A poor voter can trust
He’ll use and abuse you
And tell you more lies
Than crossties on the railroads
Or stars in the skies
Let’s throw out old Tokey
Old Tokey so high
So the birds in the heavens
Won’t hear our sad cries
On top is old Tokey
Well acquainted with blow
And we’ve lost our republic
Cause the voters are slow
Cause the voters are slow
Apologies to the memory of Red Foley
Great comments! I couldn't agree more, but would offer one addition. What Chrissy picked up on was not only a fundamental truth about obama, but true about Chrissy as well.
People keep trying to make excuses for obama and his equally inexperienced team, but fail to understand the basics of who he is and what he believes.
It's humorous for anyone to think someone like obama, who doesn't like or believe in capitalism and free markets, is going to fix our economy, help businesses and lower unemployment. But then again, they believed him when he said he wasn't going to raise taxes and voted for him.
Why did they believe Obama and vote for him? It was the equivelant of a political romantic novel being played out,
with lots of preparation from the bleeding heart , “ Let My People Go!’ idiots who wanted a modern presidential version of “ Gone with the Wind”. The romantic notion that ALL poltical background of the current pretend president was to be subsumed in the romantic notion of mmmmmmm, mmmmm,mmmmm,’our “first” black president.
Those swept away brought the nation more than they bargained for, a nationalist socialist wolf in sheep's clothing who now has cast away his camouflage by treasonous conduct abroad, and nationalization of our economy at home to ruin it.
These sorts of things lead to deep divison and civil war. One prays that the electoral process will be a viable, honest substitite, for if not, we will be at war, a people at war with their own government. The die is cast. The current misconduct through non-feasance of Republican Senators on the so called "health bill" assures it.
You are not wrong, but I know that the demeanor of those cadets shook Obama to his core. He realizes that his nationalist siocialist agenda can never take away Ameerica without pay9ong the price of buckets of blood.
And does he have the rage to do that? Let him bring it on.
Duty, Honor, Country! Obama knows nothing of this alive moral force which electrifies our nation as Americans.He, in his self centered, intemperate insouciance, has underestimated us.And it will cost him dearly. It will destroy him.
No, that was apparent in seeing this carpet bagger present to the best of our nation.He left a shaken man. Chris Matthews understood that , and he bridled.
Your insightful reply gives me hope.
For the time being,Obama is `up-armored’ by the media and the majority in Congress. But he is in horribly over his head concerning just about everything that being President requires. And that can’t be good for this country.
Is it possible that when Obama faced the Corps of Cadets, he saw the real face of America staring back?
