I have to admit, it was one of the strangest speeches Obama has ever given. In Obama usual grand way, his rhetoric was high flying, and a mixture of pragmatism and nonsense. But it does provide a window into his mind, and it is a shocking view.

Obama provided an empassioned defense of America’s wars as ‘just’ wars for humanitarian reasons…something George W. Bush campaigned on worldwide during his presidency.

We must begin by acknowledging the hard truth that we will not eradicate violent conflict in our lifetimes. There will be times when nations – acting individually or in concert – will find the use of force not only necessary but morally justified…

But as a head of state sworn to protect and defend my nation, I cannot be guided by their examples alone. I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people. For make no mistake: evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler’s armies. Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda’s leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force is sometimes necessary is not a call to cynicism – it is a recognition of history; the imperfections of man and the limits of reason.

I raise this point because in many countries there is a deep ambivalence about military action today, no matter the cause. At times, this is joined by a reflexive suspicion of America, the world’s sole military superpower.

Interesting passages. If you go back and read George W. Bush’s comments to the United Nations prior to the Iraq War, it echoes the exact same sentiment. And the concept of ‘evil’ is intriguing…an evil enemy is one that we judge as

I read somewhere that he is supposed to give the cash to some sort of "charity."

Can one really claim a personal bank account as a "charity?"

:o)

He really spoke of EVIL in the world? I’m stuned...

All his moves are politically calculated (according to his own aides), so who was he trying to reach with his comments? Certainly not the Danes. Maybe opponents to his evil schemes (namely, us)?

How long before David Frum’s wife sends out an email claiming that her husband wrote the speech?

An amazing speech for Obama. Polls are already showing that 44% are wishing Bush was back. That indicates how bad things are for Obama now.

But, long ago, he didn't mind violence when fully supporting Raila Odinga in Kenya.....

I actually would be fine with that. Isolationism is much more expensive than we realize. I am not worried. Eventually even you wil be angered by what these thugs are spawning. It’s just a matter of time.

Interventions can be done without us troops.

Isolationism is much more expensive than we realize.

Well.....we never tried it....so you can't prove that. The closest we came to it was in the late nineteenth century which was generally a time of peace and prosperity. I doubt, however, anything could be as expensive as the annual trillion dollar expense of our empire.

World War II was pretty expensive.

911 was also rather expensive.

Ongoing airport security and the assorted domestic measures designed to insulate us from a world eager to propagandize radicalized hatred against us is also expensive.

As America has emerged from the anonymity of the 19th century, the luxury of isolationism has departed. The World knows who we are and far too many of Them want us all dead. Far too many of Them are led in daily chants of Death to America. The genie will not climb back into the bottle.

Like Michael Ledeen, I simply recommend — Faster Please. Let’s just get this done as soon as reasonably possible. We seem to have appointments that other sick minds are desperate to keep. Let’s show up. Let’s answer their prayers.

Obama is a great opportunity for all the Buchannanites and pacifists to stick their heads in the sands and wait for the next bomb to go off. Its really quite a tour de force for isolationism. Its not just withdrawal but full court apologies to all the America haters. We made you hate us. Its not your fault.

Surely that should bring back the 19th century and a perfect ambivalence about the small invisible nation of America?

I am a little surprised the pendulum is already swinging against the isolationist. Obama seemed today to speak of . . .

e. . v . . . . .i . . .l .?

That must have been a scary moment to see that word pop up on the teleprompter. It seemed as if their might not be things we could simply apologize for and walk away.

He's not interested in anything more than lip service.

Al Qaeda is evil according to his speech; negotiations won't stop Al Qaeda according to his speech.

Yet he was ready in March to negotiate with the Taliban.

In his campaign he was ready to negotiate with Iran and North Korea.

His SecDef Gates coauthored with Brzezinski the 2004 CFR paper "Iran: Time for a New Approach" calling for negotiations.

U.S. negotiations with North Korea are approaching bilateral talks--a red line for Bush.

This is a flimflam man, a pitch man, a ShamWow guy, a carnie barker, a snake charmer.

The reality of his military is it removes its missile shield from Poland, cancels F-22s that threaten China, fosters Hasan jihadis, telegraphs departure from the battlefield.

JibberJabber Boy-King reads the pretty words of others in his pretty voice and remains the inexorable instrument of American destruction.
