Y’all don’t really believe this was a surprise visit, do you? I’m sure this was rehearsed or at least discussed by the three of them backstage or prior to the show. As for Shatner’s reactions/expressions, he is an actor, you know.

McCain is not the type to run an an aggressive campaign and some of the things she touched on such as Obama’s terrorist pals was probably crossing the line in McCain’s mind. McCain did pick up the gauntlet a bit but only because he saw the enthusiasm for Palin. IMHO, McCain was taken aback by the voice of the silent majority, he didn’t expect it.

“He interviewed Rush this week and was surprised by him as well. Shatner is NOT a conservative, even though he played one on television.”

I’m not going by his Denny Crane role (which I enjoyed, BTW). I believe he has claimed in the past to be Republican, and I also believe he’s embraced conservative causes (but I cannot be so sure that I would place any bets on it). I doubt he was surprised by Rush (although I didn’t hear the interview). I don’t think Shatner is a dunce - he knew what he was getting with Rush.

Palin came on Conan, and then left? That was it?

She had to get back home to Alaska for a couple more book signings and no matter what you do in life, you should under-promise and over-deliver. In other words, leave your audience wanting more.

Of course it’s in the book! That’s what makes it funny.

Re: Republican - If he’s a Canadian citizen, I guess no party affiliation there. I don’t know.

It was a surprise to the audience. According to NBC the audience was ushered out during the rehearsal of this bit so they wouldn't know about it. What should be making leftists poop their pants right now is the reception Sarah Palin got from ordinary Americans completely unaware that she was going to be there.

If you can get the book, you should. It’s a wonderful read. I’m only through the first 100 pages or so.

"... you should under-promise and over-deliver. In other words, leave your audience wanting more." Well, Sarah Palin easily accomplished that for the studio (and home) audience. And as an added bonus, she gave a good dose of heartburn to any liberal 'Rats watching.

Inside of hiding out in Facebook, Palin needs to make her case in more media appreances. Showing up on Oprah, Barbara Walters, and Conan have helped her.

I don’t think Shatner is a dunce ...

*********

I disagree.

Many moons ago, I saw an episode of the game show "$10,000 Pyramid" and the two celeb guests were Bill Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.

After watching the two, yeah ... Shatner is a dunce, at least in comparison. Nimoy blew him completely out of the water, start to finish.

As I said, I was wrong, but the line that made me think I was right was the one about the moose’s eyeball.

If you've ever actually heard Shatner do 'Mr. Tambourine Man'... I can understand Carson's reaction... mine was like a mental pain that made it impossible for me to have rational thoughts while that... uh, "performance"... was in progress.

If they had used that recording at Gitmo, then I would have had to side with liberals regarding torture methods.

Good point that he is Canadian. My observations are that everyone all over the world identifies with one US party or another. American Politics is entertainment and sport for much of the world; and I have never met a person from anywhere in the world who didn’t have a STRONG opinion regarding American politics. I have only been to about twenty or so countries, so my experience is limited.

I enjoyed the Denny Crane role as well. The first season of Boston Legal was great, then lefty Candace Bergen became a part of the cast and the political slant to the writing became more lefty and absurd.( I guess that is redundant, now that I think about it)
The first season offered good, thoughtful fodder for discussion about law and morality.
My observation about Shatner’s political views were based on his own comments during his interview with Rush.
