Speaker Pelosi named finalist for Time magazine 'Person of the Year' By Jordan Fabian - 12/14/09 05:21 PM ET

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is among the seven finalists chosen for Time magazine's annual "Person of the Year," according to media reports on Monday.

Other finalists in the realm of politics include last year's winner President Barack Obama, Afghanistan commanding Gen. Stanley McChrystal and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

"Look, she's the first woman Speaker of the House. She's the strongest Speaker of the House in decades," Time managing editor Richard Stengel said of Pelosi on NBC's "Today" show. "She had piloted what is probably the most important legislation in decades through the House. She's a really, really pivotal lawmaker."

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Jamaican sprinter and Olympic Gold Medalist Usain Bolt are also included as finalists.

Another finalist is the "Chinese worker," which the magazine said has become an influential international economic power.

The award is given to an individual who has achieved a notable accomplishment in the past year. Time's editors will name the winner on Wednesday.

Every U.S. president has won the award since Time launched the tradition in 1927, with the exceptions of Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and Gerald Ford. President George W. Bush won it it 2000 and 2004 following both of his electoral victories.

Steve Jobs gets my vote. That iphone is great, I love being able to get on the net even when I’m not in front of my computer. When I have to stand in long lines, the iphone comes out, and I start reading the articles here on Freerepublic.

What is her real title. “The Congressperson most likely to go to jail”?

Yeah, money don’t grow on trees.

Hose up the existing system, and the market incentive which tended to improve the efficiency of the system (find an easier cheaper way to do the same thing and your profits will go up without you having to raise the amounts you bill) will simply go away.

What's a Time Magazine?

Newsstand magazine sales drop 12 percent

Snip
Time, dropped 0.5 percent to 3.372 million copies, while Newsweek -- which underwent a major redesign this year -- dropped 3.3 percent to 2.646 million copies.

Nancy Pelosi isn't winning any popularity contests

Snips:

Poor Nancy.  She's got the Congress in her hands but she can't get any respect--or at least love.  According to Rasmussen Reports: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains America's best-known - and least-liked - congressional leader, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Democrats in marginal House districts might want to keep these numbers in mind when they choose whether to do as Speaker Pelosi desires, or to vote to protect the interests of their constituents.

First, she’s gonna be Time’s Liberal of the Year, then on to win the Nobel Prize for “Plans”, just like The Messiah.

Nancy, make another appointment with your plastic surgeon. There's still time before they shoot the cover photo.

If Pelosi has her face lifted one more time she'll have a beard!

It should be Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and the female police officer who put down the terrorist at Ft. Hood. Two REAL American heroes!
