Election 2010: Florida GOP Senate Primary 2010 Florida GOP Senate Primary: Crist 43%, Rubio 43%

Tuesday, December 15

Governor Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio are now tied in the 2010 race for the Republican Senate nomination in Florida.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely GOP Primary voters finds Crist and Rubio each with 43% of the vote. Five percent (5%) prefer another candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.

Crist’s support has fallen from 53% in August to 49% in October. Rasmussen Reports noted at the time, “The fact that Crist has fallen below 50% in a primary against a lesser known opponent suggests potential vulnerability.”

Rubio’s name recognition has grown in recent months and he is now viewed Very Favorably by 34% of Likely Primary Voters. That’s up from 18% in August. As his name recognition increased, Rubio’s support in the polls has jumped from 31% in August to 43% today.

Crist, well known throughout the state, has seen his ratings go in the opposite direction. Just 19% now have a Very Favorable opinion of him, a figure that represents a double digit decline since August.

Rubio is making a lot of hay out of Jeb’s endorsement.

Rubio is the roadmap on how to beat RINOs. Be conservative in your core beliefs, govern as a conservative, campaign as a conservative, succeed as a conservative.

Sadly, the Republican party will continue to push Crist and others like him until the party goes the way of the dinosaurs and the Edsel.

I can’t envision Jeb running for the White House. I’ve always pegged him as being more of a cabinet appointment than the chief executive. But anything can happen.

And to think, some RINO who thinks he or she is a FReeper, was on here the other day BASHING RUBIO.

I swear we need to clean out that party just as we need to clean out Free Republic. I would much rather have a foreign poster who is a conservative in Asia or Europe take the place of an American RINO chased away from this forum, than to have such RINOS continue here and naysay and drive wedges.

We must unite as CONSERVATIVES first, maybe Republicans secondly.

Why, the former governor who happens to be wildly popular in the state he’s the former governor of.

Crist really needs to just step aside

Agreed! He should get out of the way of the conservative, traditionalist juggernaut rolling across the land.

Agree. Jeff B can run for Florida Senate but please no more Bushes in WH.

They both ruined the Reagan Legacy by trying to create distance from him- “compassionate conservatism” remember? We need solid social and fiscal conservatives- nothing less.

Any bets on when Crist announces that FL is in trouble in spite of his awesome gubernatorial skills and that he is ending his Senate bid and running for reelection?

This is why you don't give up on conservative candidates just because they're polling low. Rubio, at one time, was polling at an abysmal 10% - but he stuck with it and now he's going to win.

Don't quit my fellow conservatives - don't settle for RINO’s just because you think they have the best shot at winning.

We're waiting for you, JD Hayworth. McCain must go next.

I am quite aware of Jeb’s merits. Was a good governor.
However, I’ve had all the Bush’s I can stand.

Wouldn’t put it past the Orange Menace. If he does, Bill McCollum should NOT withdraw from the race and forcefully condemn his race-shopping opportunism. Crist needs to be run out of the state on a rail, he is an embarrassment and a fraud.

Daily Kos did a poll that showed Crist might win the Senate seat as an independent.
