U.S. Launched Missile Strikes on Al Qaeda in Yemen
Fox News ^ | 12/18

The U.S. has launched two missile strikes against Al Qaeda targets in Yemen, two U.S. officials told Fox News, signaling an escalation of the Obama administration's fight against the terrorist organization.

The politically sensitive strikes Thursday, first reported by ABC News, supplement efforts already under way by the government of Yemen to go after Al Qaeda in the country, the officials told Fox News, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operation.

Such an operation is particularly sensitive in Yemen. "It's very difficult for Yemen to ask the U.S. for help given the nature of their population and its views about the West," one official said. "And the U.S. doesn't want to compromise their ability to ask for help."

The United States has faced similar concerns in Pakistan, where reports of U.S. drone attacks on militants are common -- but never acknowledged publicly by the U.S. or by Pakistan.

In the new attacks, cruise missiles on Obama's orders hit a suspected Al Qaeda training camp north of Sanaa, the capital, and another site, where terrorists were thought to be plotting an attack on the U.S., ABC News reported, citing unnamed administration officials.

A Yemeni official contacted by ABC News insisted that the attacks were carried out by Yemen, not the United States. Yemeni forces also reportedly have targeted Al Qaeda in raids conducted at three locations.

This was likely done at the behest of the Saudis. They’re the ones who have the most to lose if Al Qaeda gets a solid foothold in Yemen.

SNIPPET: “According security sources, the second man in al-Qaeda in Yemen, Qasem al-Raimi, survived the attack on the 8 would-be suicide bombers in Arhab at the far east of Sana’a province at the borders of Marib and al-Jawf provinces.

Al-Raimi and Hezam Mujali and a third man believed to be an Arab, escaped at the last minute before the attack started on the 8 suicide bombers who were in the next door.

About 10 of al-Qaeda elements of those who were killed in the Thursday’s attacks on terror hideouts in Abyan , were not Yemenis, the security sources said on Friday.

The sources said that analysis of the dead bodies is continuing to know the identities of all those killed in those operations.

The sources confirmed that the leader of al-Qaeda in Abyan, Mohammed Saleh al-Kazimi, was among those who were killed in the attacks on the training camp in al-Majalah area, al-Mahfad, Abyan province, south of the country.

A group of 30 of al-Qaeda fighters were killed in the training camp in al-Majalah according to the official statement.

For the operation in Arhab, in which four of the 8 suicide bombers, aged 17-20, were killed and four were arrested, the sources said, the 13 terrorists who were arrested in the city of Sana’a at the same time, were supposed to help the bombers implement their tasks against Yemeni and Western targets. The arrests took place without any clashes, the raids on the house were according to very accurate information about the men.

sources confirmed that the leader of al-Qaeda in Arhab area, Aref Mujali, brother of Hezam Mujali, was arrested in the operation.

Aref and Hezam Mujali are the sons of Yahya Mujali, an al-Qaeda operative who was killed in his house in clashes with security forces in al-Rawdha area in the city of Sana’a in 2003.”

Everything 0bama has done has:
A. weakened America
B. strengthened islam
C. attacked Israel
...or some combination of the above.

Can you cite something -anything- of substance that he’s done that doesn’t fit A, B and/or C?

(Arguably this one action might not fit)

Saw this story as reported by Brian Ross on Charles Gibson’s last night on ABC WN. The first five minutes reminded me why I never watch it. This story and the Copenhagen story followed by healthcare with Faux Dr. Timothy Johnson were each pro-Obama as hero commercials.

In how many counties are we going to disregard sovereignty? Obama has no right to do that!! That camp is no threat to our soil. When will our sovereignty be raped in the manner and justified with our own conduct? Who made us the policeman of the world? Stop this madness.

muleskinner ~ bombing bronze-age villages back to the stone age. It is only new news here

hennie pennie ~ Wow that sounds soooooo depressing...

It was worse in Afghanistan. We substantially raised the standard of living by bombing some areas UP to the stone age.

Seriously. Afghanis found it easier to gather gemstones from areas where bombs broke up the rocks.

Yemen sez, 'no, we did it.' Meanwhile, the US sez that the UAE has a better airforce than Iran, and no one in the UAE said, "no we don't". :')
