UPDATE: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just filed for cloture on the motion to proceed to debate on his health care bill. That pretty much seals it. Unless conservative Democrats take a very public stand by voting "no," the bill unveiled yesterday will be the bill the Senate hashes out on the floor.

They have the votes in the Senate....it is now up to Pelosi to decide if she takes the Senate bill, without changes, directly to a House vote or if she wants to go for conference.
If the House passes the exact Senate bill, it goes straight to Obama for signature.

Well, from what I’ve seen now we’ll see if the House dems roll over. The abortion part is vastly different from the house abortion amendment. If Stupak and his other pro-life colleagues have any integrity, this thing still won’t pass the reconcilliation. There’s still a ways to go.
In the end, though, if it does pass, it’s probably best that it passes with zero GOP support. They won’t get any credit if it goes well or for it so there’s no point in voting for it. If it stays unpopular and proves not to work though, they will get tons of credit for opposing it.
Just look how far Obama went because he “opposed the Iraq War from the beginning”. If he had supported it Hillary would be President right now.
I can’t remember any piece of legislation this unpopular tha thas been passed. Immigration and social security were both unpopular under Bush but neither of them passed. Welfare reform was popular under Clinton.
If the dems want to pass a bill that 60% of the public opposes, they should.
The new GOP Congress and/or President can always repeal/greatly scale back whatever emerges once they take back power.

Un-freakin'-believable. A clear majority of the public oppose it, it doesn't help anyone, it mandates that people buy insurance---I can't believe they are doing this over the will of the public from both left and right. Deals have been made on the backs of the taxpayers to achieve passage--this thing stinks from the start and can only become worse, because you know that it's just laying the groundwork for Hussein and his cohorts to add by other means every marxist amendment they ever wanted. I hate the pigs on the Hill, worthless pieces of sh*t, lying scum, not worth the powder to blow them to hell. This is full-fledged tyranny, what are we gonna do about it?

if the vote of 2010 is tainted in any way, we’re past torches and pitchforks as a solution as far as I’m concerned.

The bill is a shell. The real ‘secret sauce’ is in the manager’s amendment which will be dropped like Hiroshima later, rumored to be 2,000+ pages, and may not have much likeness to the sham framework currently discussed on the talking head shows, or by the doddering, confused senators.

You are being very charitable.
I doubt Reid has read more than a small fraction of that hideously fat bill.
And as for the Republicans...talk about limp opposition.
I’ve been waiting for the one to publically say:
“We have NO idea who wrote this bill!!! Given that he’s the most frequent
visitor to the White House, Andy Stern of the SEIU union could have
dictated the bill to Obama for transport to Reid and Co.”
