Democrat Robin Carnahan and Republican Roy Blunt remain locked in a tight race to become the next U.S. senator from Missouri.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds that Carnahan attracts 46% of the vote while Blunt earns 44%. In September, both candidates were at 46%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Forty percent (40%) of Missouri voters favor the health care legislation being considered by Congress while 57% are opposed. Those figures include 25% who Strongly Favor the legislation and 47% who are Strongly Opposed. Overall, the Missouri numbers are very similar to the national average.

Carnahan leads overwhelmingly among those who favor the health care plan and holds a two-to-edge among those who are somewhat opposed to the plan. Blunt has an overwhelming advantage among those who Strongly Oppose the health care plan.

Sixty-three percent (63%) of Missouri voters believe that passage of the legislation will increase the deficit and 81% say passage is likely to mean higher taxes for the middle class.

It is currently a Republican seat. Senator Kit Bond is retiring.

Carnahan isn’t an incumbent in the senate.

The dems have had a really nasty and probably effective TV ad running constantly for weeks, claiming Roy Blunt is in the pocket of “Big Oil” and not for the people because he voted against cap and trade; even in the conservative enclave of the state that I live in. His office sent out a good mail-out last week to combat it, but I wish he’d hit Carnaham in a TV ad. Maybe later, it’s bit early, except the dems are already out of the gate here.

I think Blunt can win. As a state, we’re very closely divided - that’s why we have a Dem governor and a Rep Lt. governor. I like to say that. The real reason is that our Rep. candidate for governor in 08 stunk. (my opinion.)

If Democrats can win running on what they did this past year, our nation is gone.

I don’t believe Blunt can do it. He will bunt in the end.

They’re not, and many will vote in Democrat primaries on March 2, 2010, to have impact in local races. It takes intelligence to fight socialism, and we aren’t nearly about ready to do so.

We need a candidate instead of political nepotism and family brand politics.

Carnahan and Blunt are both elevated to royalty in the eyes of the political establishment.
The Tea Party candidate hasn’t surfaced yet, but when revealed, will blow their socks off.

I looked at the League of Conservation voters web site, who is responsible for the ad. Interesting left wing connections, including a partnership with the Apollo Alliance.

What gets me is that nobody is refuting those ads which promote cap and tax.
