David Muneton, an eighth grade honor student, needed reconstructive facial surgery after being savagely beaten by a gang of 11 students on Dec. 18, 2009, in Engelwood, N.J.
Police said as many as 11 students beat up the eighth-grader leaving him severely injured, and he may even lose his sight.
CBS 2 HD spoke with some of his friends about what led to the brutal attack.
The incident near a school soccer field was so violent that 13-year-old David Muneton needed reconstructive surgery to his face to correct several broken bones.
His friends at the Janis Dismus Middle School in Englewood are stunned.
"It's so hard. … I'm his best friend," Denise Melendez said before breaking down in tears.
Police have arrested seven students from both the middle school and high school, charging them with aggravated assault. The youngest one is just 12 years old.
Investigators said the teenagers jumped Muneton on Friday as he walked home from school to get back at him for an earlier incident during which the eighth-grader accidentally hit a girl with a basketball.
The superintendent said the girl, who has also been charged, led the boys to Muneton, saying "He's the one."
"We do know that after the girl made the comment one of the people, the boys, who was with him immediately punched him," Superintendent Dr. Richard Segall said.
Students at the middle school have made a get well card for the 13-year-old -- all of them outraged over what happened.
"He really didn't deserve to get beat up like that because he really didn't do anything and it wasn't intentional that he hit her with a ball," student Michael Bailey said.
"If I was there Ii would have told someone," student Emanuel Doughtery added.
"I wrote I hope he gets better soon," said student Katherine Saldarriga.
Muneton is recovering at Englewood Hospital. His brother told CBS 2 HD his condition is improving. The assistant principal said the youngster is a model student.
"He is a wonderful young man, actually one of our students who made the honor roll this quarter," Daniella Bailey said.
As these kids try to make sense of what happened all seven students arrested have been suspended. This coming as police was looking to charge four more teenagers.
Three of the students charged remain at the juvenile detention center in Paramus, while the rest have been released to their parents -- two of them required to wear ankle bracelets.

I think there have been about 10,549 "studies" about black communities, and the common denominator that even the liberals cannot dance around is the fact that the majority of these families have no father around to instill love, discipline, and rules.
The kids resent their single mother, who may try and overcompensate for a lack of father by becoming belittling and overbearing. Their kids start acting like caged animals who have been beaten in their cages, and anger swells up. The mother is resentful for being poor and finally realizes she was used and abandoned, so she beats and abuses the children.
They have no outlet for their anger and rage.........then......they discover their "black leaders" and community condones (and even applauds) hatred and violence towards white people.
Voilà - instant powder keg.
I am not a genius, but I defy some liberal sociologist to make more sense in a 100 page report than what I just posted with a few words.
Most young black boys don’t exactly have the best role models. Their mothers, who never marry, take up with any malevolent ex-con scum who comes along and wants to bed them, so mom contributes to the problem and likely has her own financial and substance “issues.” These “men” have no jobs, no money, treat women like sperm deposits, punching bags and ATM machines, including some coal-burning white women who willingly take up with them only to be beaten repeatedly and basically ripped off of everything they have. These men live in the moment and shirk the few responsibilities they have, yet rule dey bitch’s roost like dey be King Farouk, gnome I sayin’? These kids live in neighborhoods and households where conflict resolution always means violence, which is how I know these attackers are black. They don’t go to school routinely, which may not be a bad thing considering how disruptive and bad their behavior in school is, how lousy public schools are in terms of actually teaching a skill like oh, say, reading and arithmetic, and how far left the curriculum is, to the extent there is any curriculum other than Black History Month. So there’s no consistency of positive role model exposure through school, either.
The best thing we can do with them is warehouse them in prisons as soon as possible where they usually can’t harm anyone but their own criminal kind and to be prepared to shoot them on sight when they come through your door or window some dark night. /rant

In fairness to her, if she mentioned the race of the perps, her editors at See BS would have probably squashed them.

Do we KNOW for sure they were black? I suspect they were but we need to KNOW.
I can personally attest to what Chill is saying is absolute truth. I have worked in predominately black neighborhoods for 15 years and I can count on two hands how many married, as in cohabitating, sharing last names, etc. black citizens I have encountered.
Marrying and raising kids is a big no-no to nearly all black males that I have encountered and that has been thousands of contacts. Your schools and the media are desperately trying to keep the truth about how deep the rabbit hole goes, but it’s coming out anyway, and thanks to the internet, people all over are seeing the truth.
One the saddest days I had in law enforcement was when a white teacher was beaten up by her students, and right in front of me, as she complained to the school administration, was told that she lacked the personal life experience to connect with these kids. She burst into tears again and resigned immediately. Teaching career over in that school district because of thugs and uncaring administration. Her story is not unique.
I urge every one of you to either home school or put your child in parochial or private school. Take a second job to afford it. The public school system in cities are disasters. Your child will thank you later and will definitely have less physical and mental scars from the experience. That extra job will be worth it when you don’t have to look at your child in a hospital bed with ruptured organs from being kicked a hundred times.
I personally left a high school because of the DAILY beatings that white students where getting.

Oh, that poor kid! I saw stuff like this in junior high and high school, though it was never near this brutal. I’m too cynical to believe the boy will get justice for what was done to him, so I’ll just pray that he comes through this horrible thing without permanent physical damage.

Instead of giving the racist SOB administrator the satisfaction of her tears, she should have filed a discrimination suit against the district just for him/her saying that crap about her life experience. What the administrator meant was that the beaten teacher wasn’t black and therefore shouldn’t have a job there. The administrator also seems to be saying that because she’s white and doesn’t belong there for that reason, they weren’t going to do a damn thing about the beating or the hostile environment she was forced to work in due to lack of discipline arising from racial bias against whites. The administrator’s statement further implied that the teacher deserved the beating because she didn’t share her attackers’ life experience because she’s white. In other words, the attackers were excused from their behavior because she, the victim, is white.
What needs to happen is for all these pro-black entities and institutions to be sued all day long, day in and day out, until racist black Americans and their enabling institutions figure out that the halcyon days of white guilt are over and whitey isn’t going to be their whipping boy and shake-down victim anymore.
I’ve seen it, but only in kids of a certain race, not racist, just saying.
