ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (CBS) ― Click to enlarge1 of 1 David Muneton, an eighth grade honor student, needed reconstructive facial surgery after being savagely beaten by a gang of 11 students on Dec. 18, 2009, in Engelwood, N.J.

David Muneton, an eighth grade honor student, needed reconstructive facial surgery after being savagely beaten by a gang of 11 students on Dec. 18, 2009, in Engelwood, N.J.

Police said as many as 11 students beat up the eighth-grader leaving him severely injured, and he may even lose his sight.

CBS 2 HD spoke with some of his friends about what led to the brutal attack.

The incident near a school soccer field was so violent that 13-year-old David Muneton needed reconstructive surgery to his face to correct several broken bones.

His friends at the Janis Dismus Middle School in Englewood are stunned.

"It's so hard. … I'm his best friend," Denise Melendez said before breaking down in tears.

Police have arrested seven students from both the middle school and high school, charging them with aggravated assault. The youngest one is just 12 years old.

Investigators said the teenagers jumped Muneton on Friday as he walked home from school to get back at him for an earlier incident during which the eighth-grader accidentally hit a girl with a basketball.

The superintendent said the girl, who has also been charged, led the boys to Muneton, saying "He's the one."

"We do know that after the girl made the comment one of the people, the boys, who was with him immediately punched him," Superintendent Dr. Richard Segall said.

Students at the middle school have made a get well card for the 13-year-old -- all of them outraged over what happened.

"He really didn't deserve to get beat up like that because he really didn't do anything and it wasn't intentional that he hit her with a ball," student Michael Bailey said.

"If I was there Ii would have told someone," student Emanuel Doughtery added.

"I wrote I hope he gets better soon," said student Katherine Saldarriga.

Muneton is recovering at Englewood Hospital. His brother told CBS 2 HD his condition is improving. The assistant principal said the youngster is a model student.

"He is a wonderful young man, actually one of our students who made the honor roll this quarter," Daniella Bailey said.

As these kids try to make sense of what happened all seven students arrested have been suspended. This coming as police was looking to charge four more teenagers.

Three of the students charged remain at the juvenile detention center in Paramus, while the rest have been released to their parents -- two of them required to wear ankle bracelets.

I’ve got about 4 pages worth (100 comments) saved to my hard drive. I’m not sure why, but I’ve got them.

Rather than try to “edit” the comments section, they just pulled the whole thing. Predictable. “Out of sight, out of mind”, I suppose for the lib/left/media.

I saved 10 pages or so of the comments directly from the pages as html because I knew they would all get pulled.

I suspect the policy now will be to never include comment options on the almost daily stories like this one.

The people who enabled the Rwandan Massacre (Canadian UN troops) sure had TV!

That is what “jumped” means.

Being beaten by one or more by people of color for fun and giggles.

They pulled all the comments.

Imagine that.

Better just to pretend that there's no "story" to this story.

The “people” who participated in the Rwandan massacre did have something in common with the “people” who participated in crippling this honor student.

I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, though.

I love living in a small town. Here are our crime stats off of city data website.

0 murders (0.0 per 100,000)
0 rapes (0.0 per 100,000)
0 robberies (0.0 per 100,000)
0 assaults (0.0 per 100,000)
0 burglaries (0.0 per 100,000)
0 thefts (0.0 per 100,000)
0 auto thefts (0.0 per 100,000)
City-data.com crime index = 0.0 (higher means more crime, US average = 330.8)

I’ve been reading up on Beirut and Bosnia. I especially recommend “Seasons In Hell” and “Love They Brother” about Bosnia 1992-3. The boozing and pork eating secular muslims of Bosnia were in for a might rude shock when their world of peaceful coexistence went right over the cliff in 1992. THey could not believe how their comfortable modern world was just turned upside down, and it became a struggle just to survive the madness.

Which is why I don’t want to live anywhere NEAR an ethnic fault line. What is “peaceful coexistence” today can turn into Rwanda/Bosnia/Beirut overnight. And you do NOT want to be a minority surrounded by an angry majority when it happens.

Go ahead and use it. I would love to see it in wide use.

Here’s another: Want to freak out liberals? Tell them that “hunting” (wink wink) is really right wing code for militia practice. Rednecks are really out in the woods practicing ambushing and sniping.

I freepmailed you the first page ... that is a pretty accurate sample ... basically there were maybe 2 comments in the whole thing that were what we would consider acceptable by FR standards ... all the rest would have been purged from here in 2 seconds ... and this was on a mainstream CBS website.

And what's your excuse for the French Terror, the Cambodian Killing Fields, etc, etc.

An entitlement mentality has farm more to do with violence than video games do.

Thanks for the references. I’ll see about getting that book, as it certainly seems that that is where many of our cities are headed. Hardly anyone remembers that Sarajevo, once the host of the 1984 Winter Olympics and often referred to as ‘the jewel of he Adriatic’ descended into a flame-shot hell during the 4 year seige of that same city during the Biosnian War in the early 90s. I don’t know how much hope they had, but they sure got change. Just like we’re going to get.

That last fact speaks volumes. That's what should concern us. It's like an unheeded containment breech alarm in a nuclear reactor.

Try this:
They both are committed to the destruction of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to the nation that was founded thereon.

The massacred Rwandans were Christians. Large groups of them were trapped in their churches and burned alive, just like they tried to do to Sarah Palin’s church in Wasilla.

Well well. You're right. What was it George Orwell called it?

"Newspeak" and "Unperson?"

How Stalinesque.

I guess CBS didn't realize how nuclear this was, and how ticked off people would be that some stupid white honor student was maimed and blinded by a thuggish gang of black kids.
