Suspect Was Already on the Government's No-Fly List

Federal officials and police are interviewing a Nigerian man, who allegedly tried to "explode" a powdery substance aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, injuring himself and two other passengers, law enforcement officials said.

Unconfirmed reports say a firecracker was ignited on flight bound for Detroit.

The man said he was directed by al Qaeda to explode a small device in flight, over U.S. soil, ABC News has learned. Authorities have no corroboration of that information, and the credibility of the suspect's statements are being questioned, officials said.

The man was apparently already on the government's no-fly list of suspected terrorists, according to a senior intelligence official.

"The subject is claiming to have extremist affiliation and that the device was acquired in Yemen along with instructions as to when it should be used," a federal situational awareness bulletin stated.

Northwest Airlines flight 253 landed safely in Detroit at 11:53 a.m. The man, flew from Nigeria to Amsterdam and then Detroit, was taken into custody at the Detroit airport and was interviewed by authorities there. He was then taken to an area hospital to be treated for burns.

This is BS. Most substances are not "explosive" unless they are ignited in some confined space. If someone saw the powder then it was not confined.

A Sydney man who produced a do-it-yourself terrorism book has been sentenced to at least nine years in jail.

Last year a Supreme Court jury found 39-year-old Belal Khazaal guilty of producing a book, knowing that it was connected with assisting a terrorist attack.

The court heard that he compiled historical and religious writings about how to shoot down planes, strike motorcades and assassinate high-ranking government officials in Australia, the United States and other countries.

The book was called 'Provisions on the Laws of Jihad,' it was written in Arabic and was posted on the internet.

Khazaal's lawyer argued that he did not check all the material he compiled from other writers.

But the judge said it 'beggars belief' that a person of average intelligence would not register the nature of the material.

Today in the Supreme Court, Khazaal was sentenced to 12 years in jail with a non parole period of nine years.

After he was sentenced, his supporters shouted abuse at the Bar table in Arabic.

Outside court, they said he has been unfairly treated because he is a Muslim.

Khazaal's lawyer says there will be an appeal.

So, when he, a suspected terrorist, says that Al Quada directed him to detonate an explosive concoction while traversing fly-over country, and the mixture DOES ignite, we should assume that he was lying about the Islamic connection? Maybe he was merely stressed out, like Nadal Malik Hasan, and had to "vent' his frustration at being surrounded by infidels.

Nothing to see here. Move along. There is only the ROP here, and their intentions are noble.

The more I think of this, the more angry I get.

Let's suppose, just for a moment, that we had an actual pro-American as President of the United States and that he issued an Executive Order through the FAA that any carrier caught knowingly bringing in no-fly passengers to the United States lose their landing rights in US International Airports for one year for the first offence, 5 years for the 2nd offence and 10 years for the 3rd offence.

Let's see what happens then.

Of course, we have a pro-Terrorist President of the United States who will never issue such an order, but I'm just saying... on a certain level the Netherlands can't dictate to us who we accept on planes bound for our airports... not if we don't let them.
