Hate mail from a polygamist sect makes West Texas lawmaker Harvey Hilderbran happy and proud.
The state representative is probably in for more feedback from members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He authored new laws in 2005 to send a message to those who built and inhabit a small FLDS city in his district: Dont mess with Texas.
The trials of 10 men from the Yearning for Zion Ranch compound near Eldorado are putting to test Hilderbrans laws. But the Kerrville Republican already knew he wasnt a favorite of the usually reclusive sect members who seek, for puritys sake, to keep themselves separate from the world.
They pray against me all the time, Hilderbran said with a chuckle. I just couldnt be more prouder of being their enemy. Im going to protect girls.
The laws sharpened the teeth in state laws against sexual assault, underage marriage, bigamy and legally unrecognized celestial or spiritual marriages popular with the FLDS.

I said, Pedophilia is not a religion, Darby said.
Hooray for Texas Republicans, and for the great state of Texas for facing these perverts down. Utah and Arizona are willing to wink, nudge and look the other way--but not Texas.
FYI ping!
Polygamy ping
Why do you think that Utah’s gay marriage law was defeated by the second lowest margin of any states?
It is because there is a huge portion of the state that truly believes in polygamy and they rightly see that if they let the gays marry then they will also have the right to continue with polygamy.
I am not sure why the LDS church fights against gay marriage so feverishly but I personally think it is a charade.
The LDS religion places family in highest priority. Sexual degenerate ‘marriage’ is a threat to family as the LDS believes God set it up. [ Disclaimer: definitely not a Mormon ]
I believe that polygamy will once again be practiced by mainstream Mormonism. I don’t think that it would still be in the D&C OR currently practiced spiritually if that were not their hope.
This Lds apostle, Bruce R. McConkie, agreed with you:
"Obviously the holy practice (of polygamy) will commence again after the Second Coming of the Son of Man and the ushering in of the millennium." (Mainsteam Mormon apostle Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 1966 edition, see pp. 577-579 for context)
The LDS religion places family in highest priority.

Clarification: The LDS religion places “The Church” in the highest priority.
Family comes next, unless one spouse or child becomes “apostate” or worse yet a Christian who speaks out against the church. Then family goes right out the window.
