In a major security breach, an Indian national working as a cleaner at Medina airport in Saudi Arabia managed to travel on an Air India flight, carrying 273 Haj pilgrims from Saudi Arabia to India, hiding in the toilet of the aircraft.
Habib Hussain, 26, from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, told the police that the contractor who employed him there had taken away his passport and harassed him. Finding no other way out to return home, he sneaked into the Air India flight to Jaipur. Habib's presence came to light about half an hour after the flight took off from Medina, when a passenger went to the toilet. Air India has said it has sought an explanation from the local ground-handling agency in Medina on how one of their employees managed to remain on board the aircraft after having performed his assigned duties. (Read: Air India seeks explanation) During questioning by the cabin crew, it was ascertained that Habib was only a stowaway and did not intend to harm anybody. However, the captain of the flight had alerted the ATC in Jaipur where police arrested him. He has been booked under Section 3 of the Passport Act. The man is being questioned by the Intelligence Bureau and the Special Operation Group of Rajasthan police, officials said. Air India's Director of Security is likely to reach Jaipur on Sunday. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Police have officially summoned cabin crew members to get more details on the case. (With PTI inputs) |
His name is really Habib?
Imagined his surprise when the passenger opened the toilet lid.
Problem is, while slavery might TECHNICALLY be illegal in Arab countries, the old “wink-and-a-nod” form of slavery is still quite prevalent. This guy is likely telling the truth concerning his experience in SA.
“His name is really Habib?”
Paging Al Bundy! Al Bundy to the white courtesy phone!
I think there may be connections.

LOL!
Yep, definitely a pattern there...
Potty jokes aside, the practice of confiscating passports from foreign workers in the middle-east, leading to a form of low intensity slavery seems to be a widespread problem.
No time to look it up, but there must be an Agent 99 joke in here somewhere...
You would think he’d pick a plane heading somewhere enjoyable. India would NOT be on my top-ten list.
Must have serious family there.
Security:
Hold him!
No, you hold him.
I ain’t holding him.
Put him back in and close the lid.
looks like airline security has to take shorter naps now.
LOL. Yer killin' me.
Ping
I was wondering that, too; passports are (said to be) taken away when workers are brought into Dubai, for example. See for example (liberal bent): http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html
I’ve read also the Mlive article and know about the passport (unbelievable!!). The difference is if this guy is telling the truth about traveling home after working in Saudi Arabia.
Too bad one can’t follow through on all these stories...
