Baucus: Was He Drunk, Or Is He Stupid?
Powerline ^ | 12/27/09 | John Hinderaker

This video of Democratic Senator Max Baucus during the debate on the Democrats' health care takeover is all over the web. Most observers say that Baucus was drunk. We report, you decide:

Iclaim no expertise in this area beyond normal human observation, but, for what it's worth, I would say that he was drunk, but is an experienced drinker and was not terribly impaired. What is most interesting to me is how close he comes to articulating the Democrats' real complaint against Republican Senators: they are traitors to their class, i.e., the political class. The Democrats' health care takeover will hurt the American people but vastly expand the power of the political class. Hence Baucus's outrage at Republicans who voted based on "political considerations," which is to say, they sided with the people against their would-be masters. In Vino Veritas!

He would benefit from a nice 30 day rehab program - leaving 59 little weasels to vote for cloture.

Montana gets FIVE MORE YEARS of this embarrassment before they vote him back in to office

Well, at least they don't have to suffer with Al Franken.

Then again, maybe it's a tossup.

Obviously been drinking. He's schnockered and he looks to have a great amount of experience chattering on aimlessly without being interrupted while in that condition.

Hey Max. Drunk, stupid and a Democrat is no way to go through life.

I would argue that he’s doped-up or pepped-up on some pain-killer. I’ve seen the same thing with Oxie users in the home state (when I visit). Oxie users slur their speech...wave their arms...and act generally doped up for six to eight hours. I think Baucus is likely on some pain-killer in this case.

If you wanted to make things real interesting in the house or senate....ask for a simple drug test to be required twice a year at random (give them four hours of notice...just to be fair). I’m pretty sure they will all refuse the test. The amusing thing is that they are readily voting on national bills...while ten percent of them probably are on a prescription pain-killer or some kind of drug.

Number one seems plausible upon review. Senator Brooks from the State of Inebriation.

Back when being publicly drunk was frowned upon ~ but at least a little bit more fun.

Whatever his toxin level was, he was repetitive and lying. He seems extremely upset that Democrats are the only ones on record for this travesty.

Max Baucus was not drunk! He appears more to have been struck by a poison ninja blow dart.

and once again the democRats wizz on the backs of republicans and all they can say is, "gee, it must be raining".

The only acceptable response to Baucus's BS should have been, "How can there be any Bipartisanship when the Majority locks the Minority out of the room?

“When the booze is in the truth is out.”

You got that right. People say ‘but I was drunk when I said that’, exactly, that’s why I believe it!
