Census shows the states we flee

Every year around Christmastime, the Census Bureau releases its population estimates for each state for the 12 months ending on July 1. The numbers look dry on a sheet of paper (or on an Excel spreadsheet on your computer), but they tell some vivid stories. The more so when they reflect, as the numbers for 2008-09 do, the effects of a sharp downward shift in the nation’s economy.

Given the recession, it’s not a surprise that percentage growth, at 0.86 percent, was the lowest in this decade, just a tad below the rate in 2002-03, and well below the peak years of 2000-01 (which doesn’t include Sept. 11) and 2006-07. Immigration is down sharply, and some indicators suggest that illegal immigrants, in particular, are returning to their countries of origin.

Yep, between that and drowning in illegals. Those property taxes are 80% for schools, and the schools are 80% illegals. The one down the street from me is almost all foreign language.

Polidata Inc. projects from the 2009 estimates that the reapportionment following the 2010 Census will give four new House seats to Texas, one to Florida, Arizona, Utah and Nevada, and none to California for the first time since 1850.

Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois are projected to lose one each, and Ohio two. Americans have been moving, even in recession, away from Democratic strongholds and toward GOP turf.

The same kinds of people from the east and extreme west continue to flood into the Northwest in greater numbers (Utah, Wyoming, Colorado,...). They’ve already made messes of municipal-like regulations in counties (counties calling ordinances “laws” now) and have started sucking large amounts of funding from the federal government into places in the middle of nowhere on the Range (e.g., tens of millions for feminist social programs and public schools in counties with 7 or less people per square mile).

Property taxes are multiplying. Some law enforcement interests are mulling plans to lobby for outlawing discharges of firearms by ranchers. Lawsuits by HOAs (accounting for nearly all properties) to take properties and evict residents for architectural, visual and other petty disagreements are common and will sometimes erupt to the extent of nearly emptying developments of homeowners. That’s being done in developments where neighbors can’t even see one another.

Real estate developers continue to advertise vacant lots for over 10 times local market prices, even as they face foreclosures. Enormous “impact fees” must be paid to some local fire departments (sources of embezzlement scandals involving outrageous amounts of money) before building permits are allowed (international codes, strategic master plans, radical environmentalism,...). Water myths and uranium hazard myths are used to devalue properties and drive homeowners away with nothing.

I can almost throw a stone into Tennessee and my family spends a lot of money shopping there, in spite of their super high sales tax. Having grown up in the mid South practically on the stateline with Tennessee and in another bordering state, I have always loved the “three states of Tennessee.” We left the mid Atlantic after almost fifty years and returned to this region. Where we lived all those years was very conservative until the last couple of decades, and like much of America, that changed.

It is very nice to be a neighbor to Tennessee and certainly nice to be living in one of the most conservative states in the nation. Mississippi anyone?

This is the beauty of a republic. If you’re sick of your commie state, you can pick up and move to one that doesn’t clean out your wallet (as quickly).

What sucks about folks fleeing northern and western states for the midwest and south can be seen in places like here, in Tennessee.

If I were to ever leave the Gay State it would be partially because of the filthy politicians we elect...as well as taxation....climate...etc.East Tennessee would be my first choice as a destination and I *promise* that if I ever settle there I will *never* vote for a single RAT.Not for dog catcher...not for mayor....not for Senator....not for President.

Seeing how so many Californicators are fleeing to Texas, someone should
do a mass issue of articles from The Los Angeles Times during the
2000 election season.

They made out Texas to be the an-s of the planet.

The vast minority of Texans, if they read those articles...
would give the proper invitations to the invading Californicators.

When it comes to transplants, I can say the same thing about Alabama sending socialists to Detroit back in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. One of them was Coleman Young, the former mayor.

Some of us up here don't like that crap, whether it be from transplants like Coleman Young and Jennifer Granholm, or natives like John Conyers.

I’ve wanted to retire in the Hill Country of Texas but it seems unlikely now. Californians sold their over-priced homes in CA and shot up the prices in the Hill Country by buying them for more than what they were really worth.

Here’s hoping that rural Austin and rural San Antonio (and every other rural TX area) doesn’t become suburban L.A.

Seems like the new Lone Star stae citizens I run into most are from:

Ohio
Pennsylvania
Illinois
California

And, after Katrina, Louisiana, but not so much now.

They tend to complain that thinks here aren’t as (cough, cough) “civilized” as they were where they came from.

They can always go back, if they want to, and take a few illegals while they’re at it.

We're having an influx of Germans here in Alabama. One thing of note...many have Chinese wives.

I saw an article the other day where the Germans were complaining that the good jobs are moving to the USA.

Their labor costs are too high.
