A former Manoa resident sent President Barack Obama an old photo of the two of them taken while they were third-grade classmates at Noelani Elementary School, requesting an autograph more than six months ago. He recently received the autographed picture back, as well as a personally signed thank-you note.

Kennedys are not known for their brilliance, but they are known to cheat.

The teeth look very different and they aren’t baby teeth, not in the third grade. They look like Bugs Bunny teeth. Obama must have had braces since then.

The reason he is a foot taller than the other kids is probably because he’s 10 y.o. in the 3rd grade.

On a second look, it could be him. Must mean his ears grew faster than his head - something that would almost never have happened today, and the mole must have appeared later in life.

Maybe. Probably. Wonder what the game plan is for this. It was released for a reason.

No, it would probably have been a fine camera like this -

http://www.rockymountainfilm.com/equipment/Camerz%20camera.htm

That or a similar Beattie-Coleman, in either case the cameraman would have been a pro, the lens would have been excellent, and the film format would have been equivalent to a 6x6 medium-format, all in all nearly Hasselblad-quality.

These were specially made high-volume portrait cameras using 70mm bulk fim, these were standard for the usual “picture day” portraits.

As for the “teacher camera”, in those days the odds would have favored a 126 Instamatic, not the 110 (much smaller film format), as the 110’s didn’t come in until a few years later (1970’s). In any case, this is almost certainly not an Instamatic picture. Due to film and flash costs (bulbs or flashcubes then) it would have been cheaper to call in the pro with the Camerz.

So is it important for the state run media to cover this? Must be. I wonder why? I thought the BC deal was all hot air to begin with?

BO was 10 when mom dumped him in HI. Perhaps he’s just really stupid & still in the 3d grade at age 10.

I never thought of that. Looking at the picture and my son, who was in the 3rd grade last year, and my daughter in the second grade, Barry does look a little old for the third grade.

I don’t know but I don’t think everything needs to be political. I think this is kinda cool.

Well, yes, it's cool and cuddly.

Unfortunately, it contradicts Obama's own autobiography, as well as multiple biographies, in which he says he attended grades first through 4th in Indonesia, and didn't move back to Hawaii until he was in 5th grade.

It makes a difference, not only in his veracity, but in his boastful insistence that those years in Indonesia gave him some deep and penetrating insight through his immersion in Muslim culture. And yet, according to third grade classmate Scott Inoue:

"Widely published biographies say Obama lived in Indonesia from 1967 through 1971, and none mention his third-grade year at Noelani, Inoue acknowledges. But he said Obama attended at least part of his third-grade year at Noelani in 1969, perhaps during a visit back to Hawaii, and moved away."

As they say in court, it goes to credibility, something that is in short supply with this administration.

B&W used in child portraiture, odd that it’s not color. This would be an economy move.
Tight cropping, too. That’s not easily done using a viewfinder.
Taking both into account, this suggests a shutterbug hobbyist of the era, with a home darkroom.

I agree.--"It doesnt look anything like him. The ears are too small."

What and where is this? Is this a red herring thrown into the mix.

His ears grow with each lie he tells. Just like Pinochio's nose.
