British man Akmal Shaikh has been executed in China, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Mr Shaikh was due to be put to death at 2.30am UK time, and just after 4am his execution by firing squad was reported. He was said to have been buried immediately following his death and his body will not be returned to the UK.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown immediately condemned the execution, while Sally Rowen from legal charity Reprieve described the killing as 'horrific, barbaric and outrageous'. Mr Brown said: 'I condemn the execution of Akmal Shaikh in the strongest terms. I am appalled and disappointed that our persistent requests clemency was not granted.'

The relatives of the victim may be offered the bullet that killed their loved one, and then charged the 30p it cost.

China executes four times as many people as the rest of the world put together.

The exact toll of executions is a closely-guarded 'state secret', but estimates range from more than 1,700 to as high as 10,000 a year. At least 60 per cent of public executions are carried out with a single gunshot to the back of the head.

I’m sorry but you have to be a real moron to try to smuggle 8 pounds of heroine into China.

Another dope pusher bites the dust.

Don’t get caught with 9 pounds of heroin in China. Or Thailand. Or Singapore. Or most of SE Asia...

There couldn't be a more English sounding name.

I was thinking the same thing, then I read the whole article. I think this guy probably was bipolar and very delusional based on the accounts of people that knew him from his time in Poland.

Of course he will. No mention in the story as to whether his organs were "harvested." by our partners in trade and finances.

Probably a bullet to the head, then immediatly taken to the nearest hospital so they can rip out his kidneys and sell them on the black market.Communists are infamous as to the extent of their organ harvesting.

Can somebody remind me again; just what is it we were celebrating by flying the Chicom flag on our land?

And listen to liberals who want all drugs legalized speak of how full our prisons are versus China's.

Can we outsource ours to China?

I hate to admit it, but the Chinese are extremely efficient in their implementation of Capital Punishment. Do they still send the bill for the bullets to the family?

"Bullet in the back of the head....standard Commie style execution method."

Probably so they don't mess up a bunch of other organs that might be salable.

Should outsource our rail system also? China built a 250mph train system in four years. We can’t even keep the NE corridor going when it snows.

Actually, they are a bit too efficient for my taste. You're convicted, sentenced, then taken outside and the deed is done. Just like that. And since the police never would have arrested you unless you were guilty, conviction is almost a certainty. I'll bet that if I were unfortunate enough to have been born Chinese, I never would have seen my twentieth birthday. I do not dig Chinese Justice.

That's a practice that should be adopted when executing sand nazis. At the very least, Israel's example should be followed: after they cut Eichmann's body down from the gallows, they cremated it and dumped the ashes in the Mediterranean. Makes it harder to have a big funeral back in the 'Stan or wherever.

We would outsource the execution, not the court proceedings.

I might entertain outsourcing the execution appeals process to the Chinese though.

Yeah, that's really a cool country, a great justice system, not to mention how they treat their own people with much respect and dignity.

The Russian FSB may be considered more brutal in their "executions" of people in Ingushetia.
