The Oak Point man accused of fatally shooting his 10-year-old daughter on Christmas Eve had been investigated repeatedly by Child Protective Services, and police believe he was probably drunk when he fired the shot, according to officials and court records.

"I could smell ... [alcohol] on him, and his actions indicated to me that he was intoxicated," said Texas Ranger Tracy Murphree..

That has to be just about the worst thing a parent could ever experience. Probably would simply destroy most.

For normal parents...

This guy and the dead girls mother appear to be real bottom feeders...

Ya play with FAs when drunk and really bad things can happen, really fast...

If you drink and drive and kill someone (and are convicted) you get Manslaughter or even Murder.

The same should apply to messing with a loaded firearm resulting in death.

Losing a child is one of the worst experiences imaginable. Losing one this way has to be even worse. And on Christmas Eve to boot.

I'm minded of the origins of "White Christmas."

Agreed. Just...damn.

Well, when ya throw out a piece of raw meat, ya better expect flies to land on it, Sam.

When you play with FAs when drunk, good things generally don't happen.

We had a similar incident in our county some years ago. Father was charged with 3rd degree homicide. Drunk and stupid is no way to end your child’s life (and last memory of you).

I hoping (and assuming) that this guy does not have a CHL. If he does, the Brady bunch will be all over this........

This is so sad. I can’t imagine how horrible it must be for the family of this innocent child. We should all remember them in our prayers.

Losing a child is the worst thing in the world. Unfortunately, I know this from experience. But if I had been the cause . . . well, that would be worse still. I couldn’t live with that.

Well, the Dad was the drunk shooter, and him and Mom have apparently been investigated repeatedly by the Texas child protective service nannies. So him having a CW permit might be remote.

My bet is these people are certified bottom feeders, where it appears the Dad ended up killing his own daughter with firearm, while drunk, with prior CPS involvement/contact.

It's a shame for the little girl that she had to be exposed to such lowlife.

I remember when my older Brother died of a heart attack at age 60. When we told Mother she just collapsed and kept saying over and over “I can’t take this”.

We had to take her to the hospital and her blood pressure was off the charts. They finally were able to sedate her. Mother finally got over it to some extent but I recall thinking that she would never have made it if she had lost one of us at a young age.

I sure hope it’s as remote as can be—and it’s looking more and more likely that he couldn’t have the CHL.

My Brother had a good life. He left a wife and five children plus a bunch of grandchildren.

Mother died a few years ago at age 85. Not too long before she died, Mother asked me to take her to Joe’s grave. She placed a tiny marble angel at the foot of his grave. I asked her why and she simply said it had a special meaning to her.
