Good Riddance to Decade That Began With Theft of the Presidency
Nation ^ | December 31, 2009 | John Nichols

Posted on 12/31/2009 4:20:58 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

The original sin of the good-riddance decade came in December of 2000, when the United States Supreme Court intervened to stop a complete recount of the votes in Florida and then declared George Bush to be the president.

This extreme judicial activism was not merely a devastating assault on American democracy. It set in motion the Bush presidency, and with it the pathologies that the Bush-Cheney administration imposed on the country in the form of unnecessary wars, failed economic policies, assaults on civil liberties and crudely divisive and hyper-partisan governance.

Bush, Dick Cheney and aides are surely to blame for much of what ailed America during the 2000s, and for what will ail America for decades to come.

But it was the U.S. Supreme Court's unprecedented meddling in the presidential election process – an intervention that would have horrified the founders of a republic that was supposed to enjoy a separation of executive, legislative and judicial powers – made the Bush-Cheney interregnum possible.

Are we sure emperor Obozo hasn’t signed an executive order declaring 9 years to be a decade?

The whole decade argument is pointless. People tend to refer to decades as the teens, the twenties, the nineties, etc.... any 10 years is technically a decade as any 100 is a century. So people can count them any way they want, I have gotten over the technical arguments.

Have you noticed that the left always wins recounts?

You have to remember that they have the support of probably 90% of all lawyers and judges....

Of course they want to litigate election results....

Also, Moveon was smart between 2006 and 2008 when they targeted the Secretary of State offices. That is what gave them Franken over Coleman.

THE BIG LIE! Just keep saying it often enough and it becomes the truth. That must be the motto at The Nation.

Our next decade will be the restriction of Islamic society upon every aspect of our nation. Most importantly an overhaul of the screening process for elected officials, laws about unlawful influences to elections and again the absolute requirements to be elected as POTUS.

2001 technically began the new millennium as 1-2000 comprised the first one. (There was no zero B.C. or A.D.) And so what. We’re about to step out of the “oughties” in a few hours.

re: Supreme Court intervened to stop a complete recount of the votes in Florida

BS. Don't bother reading past that line. The last thing the Left wanted was a complete recount. They were attempting to recount votes only in selected areas, those dominated by Democrats, and those where they had the most control over the counting process.

Remember, it started before the voting was even over, with Dems in a SE county complaining the butterfly ballot was confusing and they had voted by mistake for Pat Buchanan. It continued when bogus exit poling data was provided to the networks who declared, erroneously, a winner before the polls in western states had closed. And then it was on BS interference after another, culminating with the incoming administration being actively opposed and forced to take office with no time for preparation.

If we don't find a way to put a stop the Left RIGHT NOW it will be all over for us. And what takes the place of what once was the greatest nation in history will not only be worse, much worse, than what it replaced, but will be totally unable to sustain itself. No socialist system ever has been able to exist without the assistance of democratic systems. It will fail, miserably, and there will be no one left to rescue it.

Whenever one of these wild eyed commielibs around here brings this up I just point out that their whole argument is based on the premise that the ballot was confusing and the people that were likely to vote for their candidate were too stupid to know how to vote.

They ran the count about seven different ways, and Bush won every one.

Gore wanted to cherry pick dem districts to recount, and SCOTUS stopped him.

Throwing out the overseas military votes for Bush is what really infuriated me....remember the postmarks weren’t correct!

So...trying to explain that if the first year of the millenium was considered “0” year, then when going from 1999 to 2000 would have been the new millenium hurt your brain?

You mean you’re one of the few who understands a decade starts at the beginning of one and ends at the end of ten?!?

When did people get so dense?

'Rat clowns repeating the lie again and again.

It was the disgraceful and dishonest Gore campaign that attempted to steal the election through disenfranchising the military vote and cherry picking districts for the ridiculous recount of dimpled and hanging and pregnant chads. It was the scofflaw SCOFLA that attempted to change the election law after the vote that the SCOTUS rightfully stopped.

Isn't that the truth!! The ballot was designed and approved by Democrats, for Democrats.....no wonder it was FUBAR.

The catch is that our secular calendar is an extension of the church calendar. While people argue whether or not they got 1 A.D. in the right place (let alone the debate over what date ought to count as Christmas) it is clear that a zero year was never intended and historians honor that convention. The year after 1 B.C. was 1 A.D.
