Hawaii Hopes for Economic Revival in Wake of Obama Visit (Shave-Ice business booming)
Fox News ^ | 1/2/2010 | Steve Centanni

As President Obama gets a much-needed rest in Hawaii, state officials are hoping that his vacation brings the islands, once a popular vacation spot, much-needed revenue.

"We depend mostly on tourism for our state economy, and when tourism went down, it affects everyone from the state budget to the person that does the dry cleaning," said Marsha Weinert, a state tourism liaison.

Weinert said tourism, which accounts for 25 percent of Hawaii's overall economy, has declined in the last two years by nearly $3 billion.

Now with an unemployment rate of 7 percent and a budget shortfall expected to reach $1.2 billion by the end of 2010, state officials are looking for ways to cut.

Hmmm . . . good luck with that. Between the airline search hassles and the fact that major conservatives get sick in Hawaii . . . I don’t see it happening. Obama ain’t no kind of draw for red staters.

Hawaii is the most racist state in the Union. Those with “native blood” are becoming more and more unaccepting of anyone without “native blood”.

The last time we were there, just a few years ago, we were warned not to travel around the country at night and never go hiking in the mountains because of the marijuana growers who are armed to the teeth to protect their crops.

I am all for the natives protecting their own homeland.

Leave it to 0, and others of his ilk, Hawaii will be PIMPED like every other place has been.

Of course it’ll go up after he leaves. Think about how many businesses have had to shut down because of his visit. No helicopter rides. No island hoppers. Security stopping tourists at every point in his trip. How many tourists were turned away from the amusement park today when he and all the relatives and SS were there for a lousy hour on my dollar.

Good grief. I’ve never been there and was thinking about going, but that’s interesting.

1. they’re called ‘haoles’.

2. No president should eat snow cones in public. They also should not be seen in public (even getting in their limo) with sandals, or untucked shirt.

3. At this rate, it may be next year until the President admits the panti-bomber had alterior motives!

4. Thanks for letting me vent.

If you live in the east...Virginia and the Carolinas are great. It’s really not a very interesting place...

Put the fact the Hawaii is O’s “home state” out of your mind. The fact is, Hawaii is a fantastic place for a vacation. Especially if you live in a raining or snowy place.

We just got back from six nights in Honolulu. 82 degrees. Running in Kapialoni Park. Wonderful food with live Hawaiian music. Art museums, botanical gardens, hiking, warm beaches.

Honolulu is the best we think because there is so much to do with easy access. We stay south of the main city park and walk into Waikiki
i beach area. Everyone is relaxed, laid back and having fun.

If Hawaii is the home of all the print shops supplying welfare and unemployment checks, could be a banner year indeed!

" Good grief. I’ve never been there and was thinking about going, but that’s interesting."

Been there several times while in the Navy and don't recall anything special about the place. Very expensive as I remember (try $5.oo a beer in a hole in the wall bar and that was 19 years ago). I suppose if you had enough money even hell would seem like a nice place to visit.

My aunt, a WAC, was stationed there during WWII; some years later she went back and was highly disappointed. What was once a mostly unspoiled series of beautiful islands had turned into an overcrowded and expensive tourist trap.

There are a lot of really nice places here on the mainland and in other countries. And most would be a lot cheaper than travel to Hawaii.

Of course, when you’re the president and have your trip paid for by the taxpayers, money is no object.

That is true. I have friends who have told me even in Maui, and the “locals” find out you’re a honkie, it’s game over. Forget those surfer movies, they are fantasy.

I got a free vacation coming up there in a couple of months, wanted to use my hotel and airline miles to go somewhere else after looking at the muzzie tool around, but the wife wasn't having any of it.

Good to know it will be fun.

Most of the locals make a big deal about hating the “Haole” and on the beaches “protect their turf”. Typical tribal mentality. It is a liberal sh@t hole with all the most beautful beaches, but a Detroit, Compton, Newark government that wants to “rule” over the undeducated populace while living in paradise. Lots of meth, pot and petty crime. It is like Mexico used to be. Nice to visit but have to be careful of the “natives”. I lived in Kailua and Kuai.

So they think he’s King Midas and what he touches turns to gold? Ha! Sorry Hawaii he’s King Minus and whatever he touches turns to shiite!
