Ford to sell Volvo to Geely

After meeting all of Ford’s sale terms, it looks like Chinese car company Geely will be purchasing Volvo from the Blue Oval next year. While some work still remains to be completed before signing – including final documentation, financing and government approvals

They picked up almost all of the technology and manufacturing process machinery last summer. This has pretty much been a 'done deal' since the fall.
If they didn't get the go-ahead to buy Volvo, whoever wound up doing so would have to negotiate the techno rights to make the cars, SUVs etc. that have been manufactured under the Volvo marque.

I'm really curious to see if they will maintain the standards that Volvo has maintained across the board.
Color me interested...maybe skeptical...but for now, interested.

No need to cry now. The post 2000 models were more Ford than Volvo. I bought my first one while in High School, a 1958 P544. Still dream about that car. Still have a 1988 240 with over 300K. Runs like a top. You'd be surprised how many are still around, especially out west.

Cash on hand will be king for some time to come.If volvo was making money for Ford then I doubt it would be for sale.What do you think will happen when chinas economy faulters?It just may be for sale again in the not too distant future.

That is a different company now. Volvo Truck sold the car division to Ford in 1999.

We moved to Sweden in 2000. My wife, a Ford employee was, made a VP of the Volvo Cars division. Interesting times.
