Islam must seem a paradoxical religion to non-Muslims. On the one hand, it is constantly being portrayed as the religion of peace; on the other, its adherents are responsible for the majority of terror attacks around the world. Apologists for Islam emphasize that it is a faith built upon high ethical standards; others stress that it is a religion of the law. Islam's dual notions of truth and falsehood further reveal its paradoxical nature: While the Qur'an is against believers deceiving other believers—for "surely God guides not him who is prodigal and a liar"[1]—deception directed at non-Muslims, generally known in Arabic as taqiyya, also has Qur'anic support and falls within the legal category of things that are permissible for Muslims.

Who does that seriously now? I know President Bush claimed that, but I hope that he didn't fool himself into believing that. From its beginning it was a religion of war and conquest and the only time it wasn't trying to chop its enemies' heads off was when its enemies were standing on its neck to keep it down.

Paradoxes are things that would seem obvious, but turn out to be the opposite of those preconceived expectations. "The poor are blessed," or "big things come in small packages," are examples of paradox.

Islam is not paradox; it is hypocrisy and pretense for tyranny.

The problem with Islam in this regard is not that it is not a religion of peace, but that its conception of peace is fundamentally flawed.

In Semitic languages, the consonants of a word are its root. So consider two words: Islam and Salem, submission and peace. These two notions are not radically distinct to Muslims, for whom Arabic is the normative language—they are fundamentally the same word: slm.

The only peace know to Islam is the peace of submission, the peace between victor and vanquished, between master and slave. Peace agreed to for mutual benefit is unknown. Muslims may negotiate a hudna, a cease-fire, in a war, but not a peace.

One wonders how a Muslim could be brought to trial then in the American court system.

If the system is dependent on all participants telling the truth... then there could never be a valid case with a Muslim defendant, plaintiff, attorney or juror. Everyone involved should assume that the Muslim will lie if the end result would be self-preservation.
