National Effort to Amend the Constitution Launched

PALM CITY, Fla., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- A national effort to add ten specific amendments to the Constitution of the United States was launched this week when the nation's 7,300 state legislators received the book "10 Amendments for Freedom" along with information on how to convene a Constitutional Convention.

The effort is being spearheaded by 10 Amendments for Freedom, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, to provide permanent restraints upon the federal government.

"The initial goal is to have the state legislatures vote to have Congress convene a Constitutional Convention to propose ten specific amendments be added to the Constitution," stated William H. Fruth, Founder and National Director. "After the amendments are proposed by the convention, they will need to be ratified by three-fourths of the states."

The proposed Constitutional amendments include the following topics:

  1. Require the federal government to have a balanced budget and stop incurring debt.
  2. Repay the national debt over a 50-year period.
  3. Force Congress to be more transparent regarding the legislative process.
  4. Enable the president to have "line-item veto" authority.
  5. Limit the number of terms a person can serve in Congress.
  6. Mandate Congress control illegal immigration.
  7. Provide a legal framework to prevent becoming a bilingual nation.
  8. Prevent foreign laws and courts from having authority over the American people.
  9. Restrain the growth of the federal government and prevent "socialism."
  10. Allow for the presence of "God" in the public domain.

"The Constitutional Convention will be the most important political event held in 200 years," Fruth continued. "It will reaffirm the belief the American people have in individual liberty and freedom and that government is created to serve the people, not control their lives."

Any convention will be owned by the left.

Amend it, fine. A convention will be a nightmare.

A constitutional convention would be a debacle that would destroy our nation. Individual amendments are a good idea but this list isn't a particularly good one.

1. Require the federal government to have a balanced budget and stop incurring debt. There have been times in our history when incurring debt has been the only thing that allowed us to defend ourselves.
2. Repay the national debt over a 50-year period. Current debt? A constitutional amendment to pay off current debt? Seems a bit silly to incorporate that in the founding document.
3. Force Congress to be more transparent regarding the legislative process. Not really a bad idea exactly but without detail isn't anything but a very nebulous concept
4. Enable the president to have "line-item veto" authority. I completely disagree with adding this additional power to the executive branch.
5. Limit the number of terms a person can serve in Congress. Good idea
6. Mandate Congress control illegal immigration. Via constitutional amendment? What would this amendment be called? The "do your job" amendment?
7. Provide a legal framework to prevent becoming a bilingual nation. Or in other words make English the official language? Why get PC when discussing this? 8. Prevent foreign laws and courts from having authority over the American people. The current constitution does this already
9. Restrain the growth of the federal government and prevent "socialism." By amendment? Uhmm the entire constitution already does this. Putting an amendment on the constitution to this effect would be akin to proposing a "We really mean it this time" amendment.
10. Allow for the presence of "God" in the public domain. The constitution already allows for god in the public domain.

0. State Legislatures can remove Congressional Representatives
(congressmen/senator) via impeachment process in State legislature. Citizens can call for a special Congressional Representative (congressmen/senator) election via a ballot initiative.

IMHO/ States rights got short changed when switch was made to
direct election of Senator FOR SIX YEARS.

Most of the items on that list can be achieved by simply requiring that our federal government stay within the confines of the powers specifically granted it in the original Constitution.

I'd settle for repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments.

And as much as it'd be nice to have them, we can live without the line-item veto and congressional term limits if We the People are willing to use the ballot box to keep congress in check.

11. Only people actually paying taxes shall have the right to vote.

12. No one receiving money from any government entity shall have a vote, except, members of the military.

No. 11 happened to us while living in WA state. Every time they decided to raise taxes on HOME OWNERS to fund all their various lefty deals there, they allow everyone too vote on it, including ALL NON-PROPERTY/HOME OWNERS! What does some guy living in a motel, rented mobile home, apartment care if I had to pay higher taxes for him to get free stuff. Thus, these tax increases passed. Home owners were screwed and had too pay for these projects.

As for No. 12, you are screwing the old folks on SS, who paid into that fund and now are collecting. You can't punish those who paid into the program for getting back some of what they put in the stinking lefty program.

“Congress convene a Constitutional Convention to propose ten specific amendments”

You don’t need a constitutional convention to propose amendments,,,, and constitutional conventions have no limits on what they can do. Sounds like a way to lose the 2nd, or make healthcare a “right”, etc etc,,,

And what would an amendment saying “congress must be transparent” even mean?

Bad bad bad idea,,,

Most of them are short sighted. Others are silly. The rest are the way things really already are but we as a nation have screwed up the reading.

Too many items that are statutory rather than constitutional in nature, and some that’re just bad ideas: “Allow for the presence of “God” in the public domain.” Who dat? Moloch?

“will find these admendments to be Unconstituitional.”

By definition,,,amendments are always constitutional. At best, a judge can only rule on the laws designed around one. But an amendment can’t be ruled unconstitutional.

TERRIBLE idea.

Marxists would use such a convention to end Americas Constitutional freedoms.

A dangerous and foolish idea to even toy with.

And...

to remove ANY confusion (WE Conservatives are not confused by our 2nd Amendment, but left-wing un-American progressives and liberals are, be they democrat, independent, or RINO) about just what the 2nd Amendment REALLY means...

modify the 2A to simply say...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms, ammunition, and related items shall not be infringed in any way whatsoever.

problem is that once you open a constitutional convention, the whole document is open, and you cannot control what the special interests can do.

goodbye second ammendment, for example.

Urging the current Congress and Senate to convene a Constitutional convention is a profoundly lousy idea.

Pardon me for yelling but...

NO CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION IS REQUIRED.

We have a perfectly good Constitution already.

What we need is a NEW CONGRESS and POTUS.

Thanks for your indulgence.
