Special Tactic Airmen provide humanitarian relief to Haiti
US Air Force Special Operations Command ^ | 13 January 2010 | by Senior Airman David Salanitri

Posted on 01/14/2010 7:40:16 AM PST by Terrence DoGood

Capability One, Airfield

"We are scheduled to be among the first people on the ground over there and we don't know the extent of damage done to the airfield," said Major Daniels. "Our goal is to have the airfield ready to take on full traffic by tonight. We bring our own lights and communication equipment so we are prepared."

In addition to opening up the International Airport at Port-au-Prince, combat controllers are trained to survey other areas to look for potential airdrop and landing zones so other cargo and personnel can be accepted into the country if required.

Capability Two, Medical

"Our members are trained paramedics and trained in trauma related to disasters like this," said Major Daniels. "Since our airfield will be open, we will be able to treat and medevac victims if needed.

"Just like if we were deployed in combat, we are ready to conduct search and rescue missions to include rescuing members in everything from a collapsed building to an elevator shaft."

Capability Three, Weather

"Weather will play a huge role in air operations. Our Airmen will take on-scene observations so incoming aircraft will know what to expect and can plan accordingly," said Major Daniels.

The major reinforced that all of the team members who are deploying are dedicated and ready to carry out the mission.

"Every Airman we sent has either recently returned from a deployment, is getting ready for a deployment or both," said Major Daniels. "Our Airmen are motivated to help the people of Haiti."

So you want nine million human beings killed because of their situation? Sad.

We pray for their safety, and for the success of their mission. Giving freedom, aid, and safety - that’s the world role of the US, and it’s done by our brave military.

I used to be stationed with the 720th Special Tactics Squadron. If they have your back, you needn’t worry. Special Tactics means unconventional to the max. I’ve seen them ride ATVs out of the back of taxiing MC-130’s under fire.

Had one of the local stations on after the quake to get
more info. For some reason they were re-broadcasting some
Japanese TV. The anchorperson said that one of he first
responders would, as always, be the US military and praised
both their capability and willingness. I've never heard
compliments like this on US TV.

So you mean Haiti is allowing the U.S. military to help without delay?

Why wasn't that allowed during Katrina by the Democrats?

Bless these soldiers! Our military are the finest in the world and when this mission
is over I do not want one libtard bad mouthing our brave men and women ever again.

The innocents in Haiti need all the help they can get and if any of the killers, rapists and criminals among them get in the way
of this relief,
I hope the orders are to shoot first.

Every able bodied Haitian needs to make their country better after this outpouring of care and aid.

Just peeked at DU and there is a thread dedicated to that poster’s awful comment. It showed up shortly after the post was made here. Seems kind of fishy to me...

I would suspect as much..a potted plant. Didn’t see the comment...but there will likely be a page one expose in the NYT over it...and how bad Freepers are. When are they ever going to catch on??

Thank you, United States military, you are loved and admired by so many. Thank you.

What freeks me out is they say their is no place for planes because of no fuel and no room ! what about Helicopters carrying fuel in for the planes and carrying in aid to isolated areas we have thousands of helicopters of all kinds why no use them ?

It’s not that far from Florida ...

God bless our Airmen and all our Troops hero’s every one !

So these are PJ's? If so they really ARE the best of the best. In any case, Godspeed to them all. I teach in an inner city high school in Miami FL. A lot of our kids are Haitian and they are really freaking out over this whole situation. However, the school system seems to be mobilizing right along with the rest of the community and the kids are digging in to raise money for relief efforts and that's always a good thing.
