Central Business District Resembles Hell On Earth As Bodies Pile Up And Armed Men Battle Over Food, Supplies
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CBS) The earthquake aftermath has brought out the best and worst of the people of Haiti.
Much like the days after Hurricane Katrina, looting has become a problem very quickly.
The looting appears to be isolated to Port-au-Prince's old commercial center. It's an area that under normal circumstances would be filled with many shops, markets and a few homes. But on Wednesday it was a completely different scene.
It looked like a war zone.
Some of the buildings were on fire. Smoke was everywhere and there were bodies in the streets, many just quake victims lying where they were when the magnitude 7.0 blast hit.
What made the situation that much more tense was sightings of gangs of young men with machetes. On Wednesday they were seen getting into stores and taking all the supplies they could carry. The armed men were seen marching up and down the streets with machetes raised and the competition among the gangs turned quite fierce.
Fights between gangs were seen on the streets. Machetes were flailing and it was impossible to predict what would happen next.
There was no sign of police or any kind of law and order.

Remember, the only thing you need to make an edged weapon is a material that will hold one (Stone – the original stuff to make knives, metal, plastic, paper), and a way to sharpen it(stone, concrete, etc.).
Something to keep in mind when the National Socialist Democrat Party starts to whine about “Too many Guns (weapons) on the street”. And then proposes to register and then confiscate these weapons in the name of ‘safety’ or the children [Or whatever the BS tear jerker talking point it is this month]
One would think the National Socialists won’t be insane enough to think they could ban stone, metal or plastic but everyday they seem to being going off the deep end, so hey, it may be in the cards.
The more important question is, if they see two guys going at it with machetes, do they shoot the guy who looks like he’s winning or wait until one guy wins and shoot him?

Good point. Last night CBS showed one rural outlying village in Haiti. The people were helping each other, getting on with life, being self sufficient. But those won’t be the ones they’ll bring here. We’ll get the city dwellers, the HIV infested, missing limbs, uneducated, with a chip on their shoulder and will go on SSI and all the other freebies.

Also, people in Fargo are used to bad weather and probably had stockpiles of food as many do. I doubt the Haitians make enough money to stockpile food (probably live day to day on food) but also, if they did, it's all beneath a huge pile of rubble.
No food, no shelter, no water, no comparison.
Many here need to visit a 3rd world nation at least once.
The notion of having stockpiles or spares is truly a western one.
The lack of compassion shown by many here is truly disturbing.
