Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is heading for a collision with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) over whose pet issue will get top billing in the Senate later this year.
Schumer is taking a lead role in immigration and is pushing Democrats to prioritize a potentially toxic issue leading up to the November elections. Kerry is a lead negotiator on climate change and is demanding that a climate bill get pushed to the front of the line.
Kerry and Schumer who have a history of competitive tensions are maneuvering behind the scenes to get White House and Senate leadership to promise to give their respective issues time this spring.
But the reality is that there is room for only one more big issue on the 2010 agenda: the so called third thing, after health care and financial reform. And accomplishing even one will be a serious stretch for lawmakers unwilling to take on another politically explosive fight after the bruising health care battle.
If its a competition, then its a good competition, said Jim Kessler, a former policy and legislative director for Schumer. Each one independently has its own challenges.
Schumer is quietly spreading the word within the immigration community that he has the White Houses support to pass a bill by April. At the same time, Kerry has been mounting his own campaign to pass a climate bill telling environmentalists, business groups and fellow senators that his bill will pass this spring, ideally by June.

Both issues ,like both their sponsors are crap.
Kerry and Schumer racing to see who can commit treason, first
Let’s hope these two butt each other in the head and knock each other out!
I’m from Florida, so I could care less what happens in NY, but I would say that Schumer has done more damage to NY than any other politician in recent memory. Wall Street is on its back because of Chucky’s support of the Barney Frank housing policies, and now the government is in the process of shutting down the capitalist system (with Chucky’s help), which isn’t going to be good for the center of capitalism. All I can say is that you get what you vote for.
Once again the senior senator of my home state proves that he is the worst senator in United States history.
Geez, two dispicable men promoting two dispicable positions. One would have to wonder if Brown wins fat dead teddy’s seat, will it have any impact on these two dicks? I am going with “Men of Diminish Cognitive Power” for $100 Alex.

Chuckie looks better in that picture than he does in real life.
I hate to break it to them but neither one of these is going to go over well with the American people. We don’t want illegals being granted anmesty, taking American jobs and getting free healthcare. And we don’t want our utilities to “necessarily” skyrocket. So they can shove their entire agenda because the American people aren’t buyin’ it.
...and as usual, McLame’s lap dog is being “bipartisan.”
That’s a good point. The upcoming election in Massachusetts will be a real game changer for health care, but might be rather inconsequential to the future legislation thanks to our favorite RINO’s.
Anyone who thinks the election of Scott Brown will derail Obamacare is fooling himself (or herself).
Per an earlier thread, McCain said that he is open to "bipartisan" health care reform, and I suspect the other RINOs are, too. So, if he doesn't have forty-one votes, all Obama has to do is tone down his "reform" a bit, get some RINO votes, and then let his successor enact the rest at a later date.
I don’t know about that. Obama would have to tone it down for the senate to get RINO votes, but the House will not tolerate a compromise to that extent. If the Democrats somehow did pass a watered down version, they would lose their base and get whacked even worse in 2010.
