As many as eight Army officers could face discipline for failing to do anything when the alleged shooter in the Fort Hood rampage displayed erratic behavior early in his military career, two officials familiar with the case said.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates was expected to refer findings on the officers to the Army for further inquiry and possible punishment. The report on what went wrong in the case of Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, who is accused in the shootings that killed 13 people at the Texas Army base on Nov. 5, is expected to be released Friday.
Several midlevel officers overlooked or failed to act on red flags in Hasan's lax work habits and fixation on religion, the officials said Thursday. Hasan was an odd duck and a loner who was passed along from office to office and job to job despite professional failings that included missed or failed exams and physical fitness requirements, the review found.

An official familiar with both documents detailed their findings on condition of anonymity because the larger unclassified report has not yet been released, and the one dealing with Hasan in detail will not be publicly released.
Earlier, another official familiar with the findings said the five- to eight officers who could face discipline were supervisors who knew about Hasan's shortcomings and looked the other way or who did not fully reflect concerns about Hasan in professional evaluations.
The officers supervised Hasan when he was a medical student and during his early work as an Army psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

What would you expect when the POTUS is a Muslim.
Yes, they’ve found their political scapegoats but these guys somewhat deserve what they are getting. I saw it all the time during my career. They knew the right thing to do, some of them attempted to do the right thing but under pressure from above they put their careers above the right thing and went with the flow. They weren’t smart enough to see that if something bad happened that they would be directly held responsible. Maybe they will be inspired to now tell the real coverup story.
What, pray tell, is the purpose of the report if it doesn't even attempt to answer the question which is purportedly the entire reason for the report?
My head's going to explode.
The report does not answer whether intervention by one of Hasan's superiors might have prevented the shootings, one official said. It is possible that full knowledge by some superiors or a more proactive response to disturbing aspects of Hasan's behavior could have either helped him or gotten him fired, that official said, but there is no clear evidence that anything would have been different.
Scapegoats maybe, but also guilty as hell if they observed the behavior I believe they did.
You do know that loaded weapons are not stacked for ready access in garrison barracks anymore and have not been for a long time. We had a barracks armory in my barracks in the early 70s, but that was strictly controlled and the weapons and ammunition were kept separate. There are definitely good reasons for this.
Maybe the accused will get off with more “diversity training” and “PC training”. This all smells of the usual CYA maneuver.
My thoughts exactly.
Let’s see if this comes out in their courtsmartial.
You’re right! The scapegoats now have nothing to lose by telling the world what really happened.
CIC is at fault. Buck starts and stops there.
They would have been punished if they had violated PC by doing something about this guy.
This hysterical obcession over perceived ‘profiling’ will result in Jihadists in postions of trust and broken airliners full of dead Americans.
It depends on which minority is protected. From all indications, Muslims in the Armed Forces were/are labeled "hands off." Therefore, it didn't matter what the complaint was, including basic competence.
An official report just might have been a career-ender for a supervisor, so it's ironic that the need for scapegoats may have the same result.
General George Casey
I guess when it comes to Muslim fanatics, the don’t ask, don’t tell policy also applies.
I see that the general does not have the CIB, and according to wikipedia never served as a combat leader. Further, he was in favor of U.S. troop drawdowns while he was in charge in Iraq, and basically presided over the failure leading up to General Patraeaus(sp)taking over. He was also against the surge.
The man is a political hack, evidently knows dick about successful war strategy, and is no leader. In short, a perfect drone for obama’s purposes.
