Lawyers for the nation's top military officer are recommending holding off on an internal Pentagon effort that could lead to the repeal of the ban on openly gay military service. The delay could push a decision by Congress to the middle of the next presidential election.
Other advisers at the Pentagon, however, argue that lifting the ban would not cause unmanageable problems or divisions among the uniformed military, according to two U.S. officials. They discussed internal conversations about the ban on the condition of anonymity.
"Now is not the time," the in-house legal counsel for Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote recently in a memorandum obtained by the Associated Press. "The importance of winning the wars we are in, along with the stress on the force, our body of knowledge and the number of unknowns, demand that we act with deliberation."
Adm. Mullen received the conflicting advice this month about whether to move quickly to lift the 1993 ban, and it is not clear what he will recommend to President Obama. Although allowing gays to serve openly in the military was one of Mr. Obama's campaign promises, the issue was put on a back burner during his first year in office. Some liberal supporters and several congressional Democrats are pushing for action.

A lot of people in the military are religious. What is going to happen when homosexual couples start moving into base housing? You will lose a lot of people of faith, that’s what.

Actually, I don't think it will cause any "unforeseen" problems. Just many ones that have been discussed at length on FR for years, and among any people interested in the topic who have thought about it for at least 5 seconds.
Gays have weight restrictions? Isn't this carrying preferential treatment a little too far?

If this policy is changed, there will be people who will lose their lives. Leave it alone.

You’re right, there are some losing their lives now because of gays in the military tho the military does everything they can to cover it up.
Our once fine military would COLLAPSE or be ALL GAY!!

You are absolutely correct. A list should be made, I’ll start with a few:
1. More AIDS blood (etc) bleeding onto people who don’t have it yet.
2. More homosexual rape (and moves on) of other homosexuals and normal men (and women).
3. After #2, violence against homosexuals.
4. Loss of morale - big time - due to the above reasons, plus the favoritism homosexuals will show each other.
5. Mass exodus from the military of normal men (and women), leaving a weakened and pathetic military with a huge number of homosexuals.
It will ruin the military as we know it. And if anyone says “Well, Britain etc has homosexuals in the military and they’re fine” - my answer is:
They are “Fine”? Ask them. Plus no military compares with the US military. You want our military as “great” as what the British is now? Or as great as the Netherland’s military?
Yep, it’s the gay activists and the RATS that are after their votes that believe it’s a good thing.
