When "lose lips" do sink ships or in the cases of both Pat Robertson and Danny Glover, create angry reactions. A new reader and listener from the left coast contacted me asking why we had not posted on Pat Robertson’s comments concerning Haiti’s pact with the Devil. Well, I was waiting for the left shoe to drop. Danny Glover took care of that, suggesting non-action at climate summits result in earthquakes.

I urge you to recognize that Voodoo is Haiti’s religion, it is taken very seriously not merely by unlettered peasants, but many intelligent and learned members of the Haitian society believe as sincerely in Voodoo

Some of the central lwa in the Voodoo pantheon.

Legba. An old man who is the gatekeeper between the two worlds, world of earth and the world of the Invisibles. He is the origin of life. The sun is one of his symbols, but he is also the source of regeneration and uses the symbol of the phallus.

Kalfu (crossroads) is the Petro counterpart to Legba. He is the spirit of the night, the origins of darkness. The moon is his symbol. He can be placated, but is a dangerous lwa.

Papa Ghede. lwa of death and resurrection. A total clown. Very erotic and comic. He is the lord of eroticism.

Dumballah. The father figure. He is the good snake. The source of peace and tranquillity. The egg is offered to him when he comes to mount a person. He is much loved and sought after. His wife Aida-wedo attends him.

Agwe. The sovereign of the seas. Especially honored, as one might well expect, by people who live near the sea.
Ogoun. The warrior. Today, too, the force of politics. Violent.

Erzulie. The earth mother. Spirit of the goddess of love. The muse of beauty. (Strongly identified with the Virgin Mary.) Her appearance (when she mounts someone) is one of cleansing, dressing, delicate foods daintily eaten. She can read the future in dreams.

I'd like to ask the god Dr. Robertson what he thinks Jesus meant when he responded to the question about whether or not a man was suffering for the sins of his father.

I believe Jesus responded something to the effect that G0d did not punish people for the sins of their father.

Perhaps there is an application of this message for the present matter regarding the "curse" on Haiti since 1791

Yup. Robertson thinks he's God's spokesman, Glover thinks he's Gaia's spokesman. Both of them are just guys with screws loose.

Another freeper brought this to my attention. Charles Taylor is the former murderous dictator of Liberia.

According to a 2 June 1999, article in The Virginian-Pilot, Taylor had extensive business dealings with American televangelist Pat Robertson. According to the article, Taylor gave Robertson (who also had business dealings with dictator Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire) the rights to mine for diamonds in Liberia's mineral-rich countryside. According to two Operation Blessing pilots who reported this incident to the Commonwealth of Virginia for investigation in 1994, Robertson used his Operation Blessing planes to haul diamond-mining equipment to Robertson's mines in Liberia, despite the fact that Robertson was telling his 700 Club viewers that the planes were sending relief supplies to the victims of the genocide in Rwanda. The subsequent investigation by the Commonwealth of Virginia concluded that Robertson diverted his ministry's donations to the Liberian diamond-mining operation, but Attorney General of Virginia Mark Earley blocked any potential prosecution against Robertson, as the relief supplies were also sent.

I haven’t read what Robertson had to say about voodoo in Haiti but yesterday David Brooks of the New York Times wrote an analysis of Haiti’s situation and he mentions voodoo as being a “progress-resistant cultural influence” there.

Here’s the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/15/opinion/15brooks.html?hp

He says voodoo “spreads the message that life is capricious and planning futile”. His article takes a thoughtful look at the better-off world’s mostly unsuccessful attempts help impoverished nations.

My first comment after hearing the earthquake news...”someone’s going to blame this on global warming.”
