Officials with the Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced that the remains of an Air Force pilot, missing in action from the Vietnam War, have been identified and will be returned to his family for burial.

Maj. Russell C. Goodman of Salt Lake City, Utah, will be honored at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., home of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbird demonstration team. Every time I see one of this I hope it is Captain Jerry Mundt. I wore his POW bracelet as a kid until it crumbled into pieces.

Likely Maj. Goodman was flying the F-100 when he was in the Thunderbirds. This is what it would have looked like in his day.

Safe passage...

"D"..

..they tried the "THUD" for a while in "64" for 6 months, but it was too heavy and a pilot was killed and went back to the 100...they didn't change again till 69 and went with the F-4....(my personal choice *smiles* since I had a love/hate relationship with it

I never was fond of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II. To me, it smacks of Pentagon interference in wanting to have an everything for every branch of fighter platform, resulting in many versions bordering on the point of absurdity. It is satirized in this cartoon here:

And it was ugly...
