A new poll out of Ohio, which is called the Buckeye State but is really a political keystone state in this year's midterm election and beyond -- waves a large flag about Democratic hopes to hold the governor's office.
Ohio Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, like many incumbents across the country, is sliding into deep trouble when racked up against his Republican opponent, former Ohio congressman John Kasich.
According to the Ohio Newspaper Poll as published in the Dayton Daily News, Kasich currently leads Strickland 51-45. Last fall, despite earnest campaign efforts by the White House, Democrats lost control of the governors' offices in Virginia and New Jersey. Another three dozen are up this year.

Besides being a chucklehead, Taxin' Ted has a deadweight around his ankles:
I'd bet Kasich is father ahead than the poll indicates, and things aren't getting better for Strickland, as unemployment continues to edge upward in many parts of the state (my county is at 11%).
I think Kasich wins by a wide margin.

John Kasich’s a good man. Hopefully he blows away Teddy Taxes.

Ted said in his SOTS address today he had a plan called “fast track” to create transportation jobs in the state.
Sounds like he wants to fast track tax money to the unions before he gets voted out.

Strickland is not nearly as bad a dem as those in Washington, but still believes in big government and is largely liberal on social policy (gun rights excluded, he is NRA approved historically). Still, Kasich is a true fiscal and social conservative who could actually reverse the trend of jobs and population leaving the state. He is someone who could do well nationally at some point, if he is successful in OH.
Kasich 2010!

Does Kasich have state-wide name recognition? If I remember correctly, he was a congressman from a district on Cleveland’s west side.

Kasich’s lead over Strickland further solidifies the obvious public support for Obama.
Voters may continue to show their undying devotion to Obama by defeating virtually all Democrats in November.

I think you are thinking of Kucinich. He represents the south and west of Cleveland and Western suburbs. I am sorry to say he is my congress critter.

At a meeting today with a pretty politically
knowledgeable guy
— Kasich needs to take some pointers from
Pat Toomey in PA.
Consensus is that Kasich needs to have a more solid political organization — he just might win.

This election is crucial in Ohio because it relates to re-apportionment after the census. Ohio will lose a seat (ie one electoral vote) this year and the governor has a key role in redefining the congressional districts. Usually this is an opportunity for the party in state power to eliminate a safe district of the opposing party and eliminate one 'rat from congress. A Governor Kasich will enable us to do in some malfeasant 'rat.
To: NavySEAL F-16
I think Kasich will have the support of the state GOP, which Ken Blackwell did not have. The Ohio GOP is a pretty lame party lately but they do have the bones of a good organization, now that the felons and lesser miscreants are mostly wearing orange jumpsuits.
