Snow and Ice in Clarksville, TN

By Thea Agnew | January 28, 2010 |

According to the weather channel we are in the “Winter’s Triple Threat”. Are you ready for this storm? As of 8:30 pm Thursday night, Nashville is supposed to get over a foot by the time it is all finished on Sunday! Clarksville is north of Nashville, so we are probably looking in the range of possibly 12-18 inches. Hopkinsville, KY which is only 20 minutes away from Exit 1 in Clarksville is said to have approximately 18 inches! (I cannot believe these numbers have been broadcast!)

Clarksville has been gearing up for this storm that is 1700 miles long since wednesday by putting down the salt or brine. The roads will be dangerous, so please stay off of them. There has even been concerns of power outages. As I was in Wal-Mart this afternoon, I ran into a lot of my friends who were getting ready for the storm that will keep us indoors. They even mentioned the fact that we might lose our electric. There is always a possibility. Those without a fireplace, do you know how you would stay warm if the electric is to go out?

Here are some ideas* to stay warm if you don’t have electric or a fireplace. First make sure that you have not blown a fuse and check your circuit breaker in your electrical home panel. If the power is out over a widespread area, it may take longer to restore power everywhere. Sometimes it can be out for days.

As of 8:30 pm Oklahoma is without power for 63,000 residents and it could take up to 5 days to restore power! They have freezing rain and will have over 16 inches of snow after that.

Texas has wind damage reports at peak: 7,500 without power and road crews are on 24 hour mode. Floods here and more to come! Wind has been the biggest culprit.

Arkansas is stock piling poles 400 linemen are on standby to replace. That is a lot of poles!

This is coming our way! Over 21 million people will be impacted!

My cousin is in Nashville.
They have 2 inches of snow and she has posted from her mobile phone that the lights are blinking out. It’s herself, her disabled son and her elderly mother. She said no help from caregivers because they can’t make it through the snow but they have plenty of food and firewood.

I have no idea, but be sure to post the updated forecast information for everyone else in the state... if you have articles or newscasts or whatever... :-)

I know from the state of Oklahoma, the forecast was changing every day and even every 6 hours...

It’s coming down lightly, but consistently here. It’s now covered the tops of the grassblades (a rarity these days). The highest prediction I saw was for 6 inches, but I’ll believe it when I see it. We used to get a (relatively) lot of snow in the winter season prior to the late ‘80s, but snow has been rare and we’ve had warmish winters since (I believe we hit 60 earlier in the week).

If we get to 6 inches, that might be the single largest amount in one shot in probably close to 25 years. We get 1 inch in TN (excluding the Mountains in the East, which is a different story), and everybody goes into panic mode, that’s how rare the snowfall has become.

Bureaucrats actually closed schools in Owensboro, KY today, based upon the forecast of this “winter storm.” The only flakes anyone has seen are on TV!

I was about one inch on West End when we closed the office down this morning. It shifted down here to Franklin big time but we only have about 1-2 inches and it’s still “warm” enough that it’s just slush. But it’s going to freeze after dark.

The snow is real light now. There is NO WAY this is going to be 8 inches like they are talking even if it snows all night. It’s not.

At 7 pm I’ll still be drinking beer outside in the hot tub listening to talk show podcast! ;-)

Snow started up here in Knoxville about an hour ago. Less than an inch so far, and roads are still OK, but that will surely change through the night.

I loved Mallard Fillmore in today’s comics... I’m not burning Al Gore’s books because I’m a book burner. I’m burning Al Gore’s books because I’m freezing.

I am in Mississippi across from McNairy County. Just slush at this time and a cold hard rain. A couple of degrees colder and driving is going to be on ice. Everything is shut down in the city, school is out and everyone is hunkered down. I have to go in and take care of a couple of sick dogs but the roads are just slick..not treacherous.
