DENVER — In the last two weeks, more than 100 mostly tiny earthquakes a day, on average, have rattled a remote area of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, putting scientists who monitor the park’s strange and volatile geology on alert.

Very few people know that a mass eruption of Yellowstone
could destroy much of the USA.

Wow. It looks like my central coast area will be spared, but I wonder about my friends to the east in California.

When I finally moved back into my repaired house after the 1989 Loma Prieta quake six months later, the very first morning I was jolted out of bed by the beginnings of a very unnerving earthquake swarm, which went on all morning. My house, btw, is a half mile from the epicenter.

Enough already!!!

It’s Bush’s fault.

Or it was caused by global warming.

Well, who knows what the minor quakes mean. They could be good at relieving tension along the faults.

It was only a few years ago that I was made aware that Yellowstone could destroy the USA, if Obozo does not do it first.

Is there any way to make money on volcanic ash?

Possible, to be sure, but like the odds of getting hit by a meteor (one kid in Germany actually DID get hit a glancing blow by a meteor), the odds of the Yellowstone volcano destroying America are exceedingly small.

You are far, far, FAR more likely to be killed by this:

Yeah, about 500 years later there is some terrific farming to cash in on.

Yellowstone is well overdue for an eruption. I agree with you that my personal chances are small though. No one predicted the Indo earthquake either, which physically shifted the earth’s axis by a small degree. Its actually scary much more than any asteriod or comet hit. These small quakes are well known and could devastate this continent in a matter of hours. MUCH more that any nuclear weapons could do.

>>Very few people know that a mass eruption of Yellowstone

I have posted this on another (apparently parallel) thread.

When the YS caldera goes, it is the end of human beings in the entire world. The sun will “go out” (by ash blockage) and inside of a year or 2, the few humans left alive will starve to death.

If these are 3.0 or less and a volcano unleashes a 8.0 you would need about 100,000 small quakes to relieve that tension or even more maybe 1 million. In short small quakes in no way can prevent the big one, only delay it a little bit.
