Zzzzzzzzzz (Ginsburg: Obama SotU put her to sleep)
The National Law Journal ^ | 02/03/10 | By Jonathan Hayter

Appearing before a sold-out audience in New York last week, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg told NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg that she found it hard to stay awake during the State of the Union address. Something to do with that Campari spritzer and a glass of wine she'd had during dinner with the other justices.

Justice Stephen Breyer nudged her awake a few times during the speech; she recalled fondly how former Justice David Souter would give her a "gentle pinch" when she had the sleepies.

Ginsburg mused that, although she had trouble keeping her eyes open, everyone else in the chamber was "sober as judges."

She looked so old and feeble I almost felt sorry for her. Almost but didn’t.

Its hard to be sure, but she is very ill. So I’ll cut her some slack here and the speech for a healthy fully rested person was a dozer.

I agree. She is probably on medication that makes her sleepy and I imagine she rarely feels well. However, I’d like her to hang on until a Republican is elected in 2012.

That could not have been voluntary. Must've gotten her mixed up with one of the boys. Just sayin'.

Reminds me of “1776”, but Ruthie can say each of those quotes (with appropriate paraphrasing, and ironically with “Congress” laughing):

Franklin: Please Mr. Dickinson, but must you start banging? How is a man to sleep?

John Dickinson: Forgive me, Dr. Franklin, but must YOU start speaking? How is a man to stay awake?

Obama - speaking
Congress - banging (all the raucous applause, after all, would’ve kept jerking me awake)

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg you drunken slut. Been looking for a reason to say that, and now I can and be factually correct. Okay - one less thing.

Janet Nap-a-lot-tino was also sound asleep from the look of things. A real barn burner of a speech I can tell!

Is there not also a rather infamous court sketch of the SCOTUS that has a completely asleep head on the desk Justice Ginsberg?

Honestly, the main fear is if a “Republican” leaves the SCOTUS during Uhbama’s term. Tipping the scales, you know.

Did she comment on how the wise Latina sat there slack-jawed with drooling dripping down her chin?

She made it to Obama, so she will probably retire in the next 2+ years - Obama won’t be elected for a second term.

Thanks for your compassion. Pancreatic cancer at her age is not easily endured.
