Ending don't ask, don't tell (Military to be a eharmony.com for gays ???)

Opponents of the Obama administration's plan to scrap the "don't ask, don't tell" compromise by which gay men and women are allowed to serve in the military, so long as nobody finds out they are gay, say that with an all-volunteer force stretched thin by two wars, this is no time to rock the boat. They're wrong. Precisely because the military needs all the manpower -- and woman power --it can get, now is the time to end one of President Bill Clinton's least satisfying triangulations, a discriminatory and unjust policy that never made much sense.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday that he will appoint a high-level commission to study how the Pentagon can transition to allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. The commission plans to survey top commanders, troops in the field and military families to determine their views on gays in the services and to review how the change would affect Pentagon policy on matters such as whether to provide benefits to domestic partners of gay servicemen, or how to handle the objections of a straight soldier who refuses to bunk with a gay comrade.

(clip) Removing the threat that a soldier could be outed lessens the climate of fear for gays in the military, but it doesn't afford them equality and justice, and the idea that the Pentagon could still take up to a year to figure out a way to reverse the policy is frustrating. (clip) Al-Qaeda and the Taliban make no distinctions based on whether our soldiers are straight or gay, and neither should the country that sends them into harm's way.

Over at MSNBC they keep quoting polls that say the public overwhelmingly wants this. They claimed one where conservatives want this overturned 60% to 40% ??

I think the 'Don't ask Don't tell' policy makes perfect sense. It says "You can serve in the military regardless of your sexual desires, as long as you don't act on them or advertise them" . Liberal arguments go like this :"They are being forced to be dishonest".

If any one wants to see what happens when gays take management positions in an industry turn to apparel, entertainment and news media (NY times for example)you see that they are brutal in keeping anyone but other gays and women in management. Why was AIDs so hard on Hollywood and Broadway? They have a few problems in churches and scouting that are very expensive and makes life difficult for families. That is why having a homosexual senior enlisted man or woman in charge of young people can created unwanted discipline problems. If the five top leaders of a squadron or division are openly gay - where do you go for help?

Turning the military into equal opportunity for little sister and mom seriously damaged recruiting from the warrior base, homosexuals will finish it off, which will lead to more females needed, and so on until the future does not look good for combat arms units.

I think they should think long and hard on this, the military is like any social society but with more structure. The culture or populace is like any other general public, there are good people and bad people, gang bangers, rednecks, and gay bashers etc. This “don’t ask don’t tell” rule is a security blanket for gays from the lower crust of this structured club. Just change the rules (gays cannot be discharged for being gay) if they want to come out so be it, but at your on risk.
Example: 2 soldiers go in to town start drinking argue get in a fight, one of them happens to be gay, the gay guy can’t come back using that as an (hate crime) excuse why he got his butt kick. Don’t know about the rank and file probably could care less, but don’t look at me in the shower, don’t hit on me, don’t think just cause I’m nice to you that I want to be with you, and after work just dress normal and don’t use it to manipulate the system, and oh by the way don’t get in my line of fire in our next fire fight…just a few things to think about and get out of the way.

RE :”Just change the rules (gays cannot be discharged for being gay) if they want to come out so be it, but at your on risk.

Are you joking? Any gays get hurt and we will see a wave of sensitivity training. Remember Tailhook? That senate outrage show was made by the same feminists that demanded females in the military , and had promised it would cause no problems.

If they want to serve they need to keep those sexual desires to themselves. (Here in Maryland it is a right to express this feelings and be entitled to a job and housing.)

If homosexuals are to come out of the closet in the military, then drop the other shoe and have men and women shower and bunk together.

If I was a conservative elected I would get on Chris Matthews MSNBC and tell him Islamic terrorists would use the conversion of the US military to a Club Med as a recruiting tool. I watch MSNBC and always wonder why republican guests dont turn the tables on Matthews got-ya games.

I'm not surprised that conservatives want DADT overturned. I do. I want it replaced with "Do ask, Do tell, Do dishonorably discharge."

The last thing we need are more people with honest-to-goodness mental problems in the military.

RE :”I want it replaced with “Do ask, Do tell, Do dishonorably discharge.”

That was the prior policy. But then the libs came up with “Gays were born with their desire so this is bigotry based on birth”. So DADT pre-empted it with ‘keep your desires to yourself and you will be left alone’. So now they dreamed up the honesty argument, that we are forcing gays to lie to ‘serve their country’.

Note that when the libs said Bush lied about WMDs, they didnt say he was ‘forced to lie’.

Liberals want to treat the military as if it’s any other enterprise in the private or public sector.

Our soldiers are willing to lay down their lives to protect us, hence THEY should get to set the rules on what constitutes the best composition of their forces, not politicians.

Islamic terrorists used lies like Newsweak’s claim that korans were flushed down the toilet as a recruiting tool.

Islamic terrorists used lies like Ted Kennedy’s claim that Americans were perpetrating the same horrors at Abu Ghraib that Saddam Hussein had carried out (which would be lopping off hands, raping and or/disembowling prisoners’ wives in front of them...) as a recruiting tool.

Islamic terrorists used lies like internet porn site photos as “proof” that “American GIs” were “raping” “Iraqi women” as a recruiting tool.

Barack Hussein Obama knows this. He is even on record saying that perception becomes truth even if it isn’t true.

So no matter what, there will be recruiting propaganda. And the Left feeds that cause. In a word “treason”. They provide aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war through willful propaganda efforts designed to sink domestic civilian and troop morale and provide justification for the acts of terrorists.

“the way don’t get in my line of fire in our next fire fight”

Give our boys some credit they won’t go off fragging open homosexuals. Will they?

too right - as an Air Froce sargeant I know how creapy an NCO can become because they don’t get a promotion - imagine what happens when gays don’t get one and they take it out on the new guys.

I would be very interested in learning what FR Veterans think this will do to Unit Cohesion and camaraderie.
If this demonstrably reduces the battlefield effectiveness of our Military (as I strongly suspect it would) then there would be a clear necessity for the next Administration in 2012 to change course on this.

Fortunately this was put into law by the democrat congress in 1993 under Clinton and this congress is unlikely to try to get it through the Senate. Homos will realize Obama is conning them again.

MSNBC is really enthused about this idea.

Wasn’t Abu grabe the result of a sexual fetish cluster of personel pevading a unit?

I think poll are being manipulated to include people who want “ASK and EXPELL” as the policy instead of the current one.

It is the immutability of the behavior that is the issue.

(The canadian mounties now have to deal with the same ridicule issues)
