Tim Tebow's Father Bob Tebow Talks About Decision Against Abortion, Son's Birth

By now, most Americans have heard about the famous Tim Tebow advertisement Focus on the Family will air during the Super Bowl. The ad reportedly features Tebow and his mother Pam and her story about how she decided against an abortion. But few people have hear Tebow's father discuss the story of Tim's birth.

As most people know, Pam Tebow got sick with dysentery while on a missions trip to the Philippines and her doctors suggested she consider an abortion because of the medication she was taking while pregnant with Tim.

She refused, gave birth, and son Tim led the Florida Gators to a national championship and won the Heisman Trophy.

During a time with slightly less national attention focus on his family, Bob Tebow talked with Sports Illustrated about his son's famous birth story.

"Have you heard the story of Timmy's birth?" he told the magazine.

"When I was out in the mountains in Mindanao, back in '86, I was showing a film and preaching that night. I was weeping over the millions of babies being [aborted] in America, and I prayed, 'God, if you give me a son, if you give me Timmy, I'll raise him to be a preacher,'" he recalled.

Shortly afterwards, Bob and Pam gave birth to their son, their fifth child, after what turned out to be a difficult pregnancy.

"The placenta was never properly attached, and there was bleeding from the get-go," Bob told SI. "We thought we'd lost him several times."

He told the magazine the part of the story that many publications haven't included in their coverage of the ad and the Tebow family -- namely, that Pam contracted amebic dysentery early in the pregnancy and that put her in a temporary coma.

Then, after refusing the abortion, Pam gave birth to Tim on August 14, 1987 and named the baby Timothy Richard Tebow.

"All his life, from the moment he could understand, I told him, 'You're a miracle baby,'" Bob told Sports Illustrated in July 2009. "'God's got a purpose for you, and at some point I think He's going to call you to preach.'

He concluded: "I asked God for a preacher, and he gave me a quarterback."

With God, all things are possible.

I believe that this ad this weekend will speak truth to our culture of death in a very powerful way. Hearts will be changed.

Well, I hope this ad speaks to a relative of mine, who has all sorts of people urging her to get an abortion... (but not me...).

Culture war bump. Good and evil cannot mix or co-exist easily. They are like oil and vinegar and repel each other. They are polar opposites.

Thus, the markers nationwide will be set down on Super Bowl Sunday. Watch as the cultural battle lines are drawn, the first shot rings out, and the erturn volley that follows, rhetorically speaking. This will be very interesting to watch and take note of. The Worldwide Culture of Death, American Version (whom we know who is the father), is getting a two-by-four right smack in the solarplexus on this one, IMHO.

I will also like to see how the foreign press picks this up worldwide. I already know what they will more or less say in Europe though.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the morons at Planned Abortionhood for making a big deal out of this ad and getting us all of this ink and airtime. Their tantrum has done more for those of us who are pro-life than all the Super Bowl ads put together! LOL!!!

For every action, there is an opposite and equal REACTION. ;-) This only shows (the pro-deathers’) lack of tactics and wisdom from Providence Above in this regard. I say, ‘bring it on’.

From: http://www.tebowzone.com/about/

“Tebow was born on August 14, 1987 in the Philippines to Bob and Pam Tebow, who were serving as Christian missionaries at the time. While pregnant Pam suffered a life-threatening infection with a pathogenic amoeba. Because of the drugs used to rouse her from a coma and to treat her dysentery, the fetus experienced a severe placental abruption. Doctors expected a stillbirth and recommended an abortion to protect her life. She carried Timothy to term, and both survived.”

If an abortion for this medical reason were against the law in the Philippines, why would the doctors recommend it?

He is most definitely a miracle. And darkness always hates the light.
As much as Planned Parenthood and NOW outraged me with there stupid comments about the ad. I’m glad they did it. There showing there true colors. They are really freaked out about this. I thought the commercial they did to counter Tebows was stupid and petty and it shows. The young man that speaks at the beginning talks about Pam Tebow, basically well good for her, but, every woman should have a right. I’m thinking, doesn’t this guy realize that he could have been aborted, what a dummy.

“Tim Tebow’s Father Bob Tebow Talks About Decision Against Abortion, Son’s Birth.”

This is probably now considered “hate speech” under Federal law.

Good one. "Dad's comments" are certainly frowned upon in this MSM feminista-PC culture.
(unfortunately there are too many "dads" (cads rather) who give 'real men' a bad name)

This may be my new favorite sports story EVER. :*) And Mr. Tebow? Don't you realize when your son wears God's Word on his face, the world sees it, and many will be drawn to the Bible to discover what Tim is sharing--so not just a quarterback, but a preacher of sorts as well! :*)

Exactly. Thanks for the post and pics. Bob Tebow, God gave you what you prayed for and more: preacher ... and a quarterback!

God knew in this sports-crazed culture that a quarterback would be a most effective preacher.

If anyone listened this morning or is a Glenn Beck insider he had stunning audio of NFL player prolife ads run in the 80s. It is amazing how far the conversation has come.

This also reminds me of an awesome quote by St. Francis:

"Preach the Gospel always; use words if necessary" ...
