HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - U.S. Rep. John Murtha, an influential critic of the Iraq War whose congressional career was shadowed by questions about his ethics, died Monday. He was 77. The Pennsylvania Democrat had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery. He died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., spokesman Matthew Mazonkey said.
In 1974 Murtha, then an officer in the Marine Reserves, became the first Vietnam War combat veteran elected to Congress. One of Congress' most hawkish Democrats, he wielded considerable clout for two decades as the ranking Democrat on the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending.
Murtha voted in 2002 to authorize President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq, but Murtha's growing frustration over the administration's handling of the war prompted him in November 2005 to call for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.
"The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion," he said.

Thats the only sadness I feel in his death........
..... and let God sort it out ?
I pray that God somehow needs a piece of human excrement in heaven if only to be met by all the Marines who have died with honor ..........sorry but that's the best I can do.
Gods blessing on his family, and mercy on his soul.
Wonderful words of wisdom from Mr. Garibaldi. My favorite on B5.
Thanks for the info. My grandmother, aged 55, died on the operating table during gall bladder surgery. That was back in ‘46, and she was in Kingston General Hospital in Canada. I always wondered what could have happened. Sad I never knew her as I wasn’t born until ‘47. In fact, I never knew any of my grandparents. They all died before I was born.
Hope Mr. Murtha repented of his sins before he died. Many people prayed for his conversion.
Maybe he died of complications of gallbladder surgery, or maybe TPTB decided that with ongoing ethics questions concerning him, he was of no further value to them!
You can bet that the commie ‘RATS have already gone to work looking for a way to exploit Murtha’s passing. “He’d still be alive if we had ObamaCare”. “His dying wish was to pass Cap’n Tax”. “He was planning on working, very hard, to bring the illegal aliens out of the shadows as soon as he got Obamacare passed.”
didn’t work in Teddychusetts. Not gonna happen in a district that went for Mccain.
“If there was a God, Murtha would have been killed in Vietnam. “
that would’ve affected everyone he served with
John Murtha is dead.
Hopefully he doesn’t have a widow or son to run in his place. That would be annoying.
Very true.
I would think this would be a seat the GOP should be able to pick up in Nov.
God is good; blessed be the name of the Lord.

Oh, man.. If his son ran.. Remember.. his son is still under investigation for lots and lots of fun and corrupt misdeeds. mostly the ones they couldnt get the now-pining-for-the-fjords Murtha for.
war critic
No. Traitor. Lying liar.
Haditha was an agit prop myth.
Murtha lied, people died.
It would also have been a net benifit to the country as a whole.
I will reserve comment because my mother told me that’s what I should do in this situation.
“It would also have been a net benifit to the country as a whole.”
not at that time. There is a time and a place for everything.
Tennessee has joined several other states in trying to pass a Health Care Freedom Act. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. BIG NEW fees for Tricare for Life retired over 65 Military's secondary health ins. (DOD bill already passed, delayed but goes into effect 2011)
New Dem mantra: Woof, woof eat dog food granny....ala let them eat cake.
