Breaking : Rep. John Murtha, Iraq war critic, dies at 77

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - U.S. Rep. John Murtha, an influential critic of the Iraq War whose congressional career was shadowed by questions about his ethics, died Monday. He was 77. The Pennsylvania Democrat had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery. He died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., spokesman Matthew Mazonkey said.

In 1974 Murtha, then an officer in the Marine Reserves, became the first Vietnam War combat veteran elected to Congress. One of Congress' most hawkish Democrats, he wielded considerable clout for two decades as the ranking Democrat on the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending.

Murtha voted in 2002 to authorize President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq, but Murtha's growing frustration over the administration's handling of the war prompted him in November 2005 to call for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.

"The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion," he said.

There is a God...

If there was a God, Murtha would have been killed in Vietnam.

He was so slimy they’ll probably have to line his casket with garbage bags just to keep him from oozing into the water supply.

Article 1 Section 2

When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

The governor could schedule the election for November or any time before. Considering that the State has little money to spare he could just leave the seat vacant until the November Election.

However I do believe there would have to be two separate spots on the ballot one for the vacant seat and one fore the new congress.

So it would be conceivable that you could have two different winners.

Diana Irey ran against Murtha in 2006.
In 2008 election it was Wm. Bill Russell.

Governor Rendell is a Democrat, so he is going to want to do whatever he can to get another Democrat in the seat.

If the Democrats think they can get another Democrat elected to fill the seat, then Rendell will call for a special election as soon as he can. On the other hand, if it will be a close election, then the Democrats won't want another special election like Massachusetts and Rendell will let it sit vacant.

Either way, Murtha will still vote in the election.

Murtha has just joined the Democrats' most reliable demographic group: dead voters.

No point in giving fodder to the left wing blogs.

Who cares about the left wing blogs, I hope the bastard rots in hell.
