Super Bowl sets record with 48 minutes of ads (3 minutes more than last year)

NEW YORK – Think Sunday night's Super Bowl seemed like it had a lot of ads? You're right. Commercials took up nearly 48 minutes of the game — the most for any Super Bowl.

.. nearly 3 minutes longer than last year's total, the previous record holder.

...

Commercials typically come in 30-second blocks — which sold this year for between $2.5 million and more than $3 million. But Kantar says seven of this year's 66 ads were just 15 seconds long. That's the most since 2002.

Yeah but most of the ads in the second half were promo’s for CBS shows.

The NFL is horrible with their commercials. 5 minutes of commericals, 2 mins of lame talk, 30 seconds of game. Repeat until all ad spots are sold.

I agree, most were promo’s for CBS shows, with the occasional, Denny’s commercials with those annoying chickens.

I hate it when the game interrupts the ads.

I couldn't figure out the Denny's commercials. Why would the chickens be upset about having to lay more eggs for Tuesday's sale? After all, the plate included bacon and sausage, so the pigs should be the ones panicked about it.

Got to love the Superbowl Halftime report. “We’ll recap the game for those who were in a coma for the past two quarters of football and suddenly woke up.”

That’s why I prefer soccer, you get 45 minutes of action without commercials, a potty break at halftime, and then 45 more minutes of uninterrupted action.

I actually prefer watching the Champions League Final to the Super Bowl. And they finally got smart and moved it to a Saturday, instead of Wednesday. As of last year, it passed the Super Bowl as the most-watched annual sporting event worldwide, and now it will have even more viewers.

The marketing was so over the top it made me sick. Every aspect, every inch of that place had a logo. They’d cover the field in logos if they thought people would still tune in.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I don't believe those count in the commercial totals as most of those come during the broadcast of the game. IOW, they come after the game feed comes back on, but before play actually resumes.

Soccer and Hockey. Commercials have ruined football and basketball, especially football. Baseball isn't quite as bad because they don't interrupt play for commercials, obviously.

Even Hockey has TV timeouts, it’s really annoying when you watch an NHL game in person. The best is during overtime in the playoffs when there are no stoppages.

I only watched the first half. When the halftime show started I was shocked at how bad The Who sounded. It would have been better if they had lip synced. I turned the TV off intending to watch later - then forgot and fell asleep. I didn’t think the commercials were all that great either.

Its almost a celebration of the most obnoxious aspects of this country and not about the best two football teams.
